@NJWrestlingmom We do the same thing! H or S usually win since they see almost all of the nominations each year. Although I was lucky and won one year and D did too…
Once again, #OscarsSoWhite
And so male!
Yeah, when I heard that, I thought I was in an alternate reality. That movie just seems like a vehicle for JLo to show off her body, so expecting an Oscar nomination? Oh wow.
I actually liked Hustlers a good bit and think JLo (in that) was better than Scarlett Johansson really ever is, same for Florence Pugh (I think she’s fairly bad, actually).
I was more “outraged” that Queen and Slim, the Farewell, The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Beach Bum and Uncut Gems got no love at all. Clearly I’m just an A24 baby, but all of those movies had something that I believe deserved a nomination.
I think JLo is a pretty good actor. Loved her in Out of Sight. I find Scarlet Johansson incredibly annoying as an actor. Hated her in Marriage Story. Hated the movie too.
Haven’t seen Hustler’s, but after seeing many of her other films, I’d say Jennifer Lopez is a perfectly fine actress. No more, no less.
I think the most surprising omission (just from all the pre-nomination buzz) was Adam Sandler.
There had also been a lot of talk about Billy Eichner getting a nomination for his voice work in The Lion King. That really astounded me. He was adorable in the film, but for the most part seemed to just be doing himself rather than stretching as an actor.
A separate Oscar for voice work might not be a bad idea, however.
We saw 1917 a few nights ago. Definitely deserving of a best picture nomination.
We watched The Irishman last night on Netflix. DeNiro, Pacino, and Pesci are all-around great actors. I read there was some controversy related to Pacquin (who portrayed Sheeran’s daughter)… She has very few lines, and some critics thought her talent was wasted. I thought her silence but powerful.
Going to see JoJo Rabbit tonight with Dh…
None of the Oscar nominee movies seem exciting to me. We’ll save our $$ and maybe watch a few at home when they become available via streaming. We usually watch the Oscars but maybe will skip this year. Yawn.
Every year I threaten to pass on it, but then I always end up capitulating.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
I’ll pick Once Upon A Time in Hollywood to win best picture. Hollywood (historically) has loved movies about itself.
I’m in agreement with @doschicos except for Best Supporting Actor, which I predict as Brad Pitt
Pitt is probably the safer choice, @skieurope but I’m just not a huge fan.
Supporting actor is always a strong category, and this year is no exception. I agree that Brad Pitt is the likely winner, and I’m fine with that! He’s the only nominee who doesn’t already have an Oscar (Tom Hanks has two). I’ve seen all the performances, and was especially bowled over by Joe Pesci.
@TatinG, Hollywood does like movies about itself, but those are often nominated and rarely take home the Best Picture prize. There was The Artist in 2011, but I can’t think of another one. Several Best Picture winners have touched on Hollywood and the movies - The Godfather, Argo, Birdman.
I think Parasite has a real chance tonight.
Which is why many pundits have “should win” and a “will win” list. TBH, I did not think his performance in OUATIH was all that and a bag of chips, but he will still win. ![]()
Billy Porter just loves to be outrageous. I’ve found several of his previous looks interesting, but this one is just ugly and kinda ridiculous.
- And he just mispronounced Michael Strahan’s name.
