Very happy Parasite has won several Oscars including Best International Film.

Very happy Parasite has won several Oscars including Best International Film.
Elton!
Yeah Elton!
How is no one talking about Cynthia Erivo’s performance of Stand Up? I found it riveting – I wasn’t paying attention, scrolling on my phone when WOW!
I think it was a real “Star is Born” moment. (Ok, or Star is catapulted to much wider recognition moment anyway).
Breathtaking!
Yes, Cynthia Erivo is a star and phenomenal talent.
Happy Elton won for song!
@soozievt Speaking of awards - inquiring minds want to know, what is the significance of your new(?) avatar and the exclamation point below your user name?
@cinnamon1212 If you enjoyed Cynthia, she starred in Bad Times at the El Royale, 2018. Unique, violent, good movie. It was the first time I saw her and now we’re watching Cynthia in The Outsider on HBO. Creepy but good!
Agree- Cynthia Erivo was amazing!
@doschicos I never noticed the exclamation mark under my name until you just pointed it out. I have no idea how that got there or what it means?!?!
My avatar is not new, but maybe you are just noticing it. It is the logo image for my business/practice…my daughter created it actually.
Gotta say, there have been some good commercials on the Oscar telecast…
Happy Joaquin Phoenix won. His performance was stellar!
And I appreciate his message as well.
Bong Joon Ho’s translator deserves an Oscar, the most faithful translating of Korean to English I’ve seen.
Bong’s honoring other directors present, particularly Scorsese, was quite touching.
Ellen Ripley, the first cinematic super-heroine. Hooray, and recognition long overdue.
I’m not gonna lie, I’m not a Renee fan. The female lead category, in particular, didn’t highlight the very best of the year imo.
My favorite dresses were Natalie Portman and Jane Fonda.
I’ll have to take your word on that. ![]()

Well, I got 5 right and @skieurope one upped me getting Brad Pitt right.
Parasite was an upset I think vs 1917 for Best Picture and Best Director but I liked it a lot so not unhappy. I still think 1917 was more of a cinematic masterpiece, though.
Parasite? Really? It looks interesting but 4 Oscars? Is it that much better than the Irishman or Ford vs. Ferrari? Is it as compelling as Marriage Story?
I guess I need to see Parasite now! Disappointed 1917 didn’t win best picture, but it did win two categories where it excelled.
Loved Joaquin’s speech. He seemed so appreciative of it all. I’m glad he was allowed the time to share his thoughts.
Much better than The Irishman. Definitely a strong movie - although my parents did not care for it, my kids loved it and my husband and I thought it was very good. I did really like Ford v Ferrari but Parasite was much more unique and original.
ok: back to Cynthia Erivo - I didn’t know who she was; but got teary-eyed when I heard her song. wow.
saw parasite on Friday night on Amazon. It’s crazy. I think I’m glad it won; but it’s such a hard movie to watch.
^^ I think all the nominated movies are compelling. You just have a different taste than the people that voted for the Oscar. But i agree with @doschicos , 1917 was more of a cinematic masterpiece.
Although I liked parasites, I kind of thought all Korean films (that makes for American market) seem to have the same structure: two hours of tension with a touch of sporadic psychotic behavior, followed by an orgy of violence at the end and a short afterward.
