Those who already got accepted to domestic(your own countries') universities...

<p>I got accepted to MIT although I was already accepted to another university in my own country(I was notified of MIT admission on March 16th 2005 while I got accepted to the domestic university in December 17th 2004)</p>

<p>The reasons I applied for both universities were:
1.I was not sure about financial aid I would receive to attend foreign universities(e.g, MIT)
2.Somewhat because of reason above, I applied for a university in my country whose term begins in March 2005, not in September 2005 as in the states. (since the term begins in March, I have attended the university since)</p>

<p>There were many cases like me in my country, and I did not think such behaviors mattered as far as I would cancel my registration at the university of my own country before I go to MIT in August.
Yet, I heard that a student like me lost his admission to UPenn because he had already applied for and gotten accepted to another university in his own country. </p>

<p>Hence, I want to ask whether it is legal to go MIT after I cancel my admission to the university in my country on about June 1st. The problem is that the deadline for final reply to MIT is May 1st, so one of my friends recommended that I should cancel my registration to the university before May 1st. Does anyone know about the legality of attending a domestic university before going to foreign universities?</p>

<p>well in our country (philippines) many people go to local universities for a quarter or two before going abroad.</p>

<p>Sounds like a toughie. If you are satisfied with your MIT award, then I suggest you start the process and cancel your enrollment/registeration. </p>

<p>Quick Question: When did you graduate from highschool? And from MIT’s perspective, do they expect you to be at school now? Or just someone who has graduated from highschool?</p>

<p>I graduated from my high school in Feburuary 2005, which is usual in my country.</p>
