what are your thoughts on my writing about a first love i had that i believed was love at first site. it has been a burden (in a good way and stressfull way) over my shoulders for three years and counting now…the love was with someone i didn’t even know personally…would that not be an ok topic…writing about its effect on my life and the “life lessons” it has taught me

Hmm… I’m not sure. The essay is supposed to highlight your good points… things that are not necessarily obvious in the rest of your application, but would help persuade admissions counselors that you would be a good addition to their school… It depends HOW you write the essay. It could sound cheesy, disingenuous, and even obnoxious… OR, it could reveal something important about you as a person, and be poignant and interesting as well. It really just comes down to whether or not you can pull it off.

sounds dangerous, I would steer clear of it unless it was really something meaningful in regards to making you a better student at X college…

wait…are we talking about a girl here. Give us some specifics =)

I agree with the other posters. Make sure the topic sheds some light on why you would be a valuable addition to the student body. Even if it is relevant, I think you could probably find another subject that would do more to convey your strengths.

its a girl and a rather quite unattainable one…i’d rather not say who

is it angelina jolie? sorry, but i must say id have the same exact problem if u said that was the girl

dooooooooooo itttttt

if it’s angelina jolie then it’s justified

i totally second that

sry, unless you’re either brad pitt or a malnourished african/indochina baby, there is 0% chance angelina jolie will love you

:)

i can move to africa…

its a girl that is my age lol (17) and i’ve been distraught for a while as weird as it sounds…i’m thinking it is one of a few things i can be extremely passionate about in writing

haha awww… love is tough… thats why they call it teenage drama. I have no doubt you’d be able to write very passionately about this topic. However, I fear that you may get too passionate and write what you think is a beautiful essay, but is actually very sentimental and cheesy. This happens very often, and with a topic such as love, I doubt the admissions officer would sympathize.

i think im going to puke

lol fun and possibly great topic anyway :D. will u have enough evidence to show adcom that ur love is serious and has some meaning in your life? as everyone said, the essay may just turn out to be a cheap sob story. but if u still like it, write a draft then see if it works.

If you happen to get a female, passionate liberal readership, then it could work. With a conservative male audience, probably not. ;)

ok i’m going to write a draft of it…but actually today coincidentally i had a very very amazing experience i could write about too…senate gallery it was amazing (the effectively got nothing done as usual, but i have faith
and it happens to be one of my great passions…
thanks a lot
