Be careful of unexpected packages.
This is terrifying. In my neck of the woods, an apartment building is going to be burned down Thursday because one unit exploded, killing its occupant, who apparently had been experimenting with chemicals in the unit. The other units’ residents can’t even go back inside to retrieve their possessions before the building is destroyed.
Hope investigators find the perpetrators and the reason for their mayhem very soon.
The young man killed was an accomplished bassist . I hope they find the pos that did this.
The two people previously killed by the Austin package bombs were both African American men and police are looking into whether this is an ongoing hate crime.
^^Yes, I just read, “Mason was described as a talented student and bass player accepted into the selective Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin.”
@greenwitch , isn’t blowing up anyone with a package bomb a hate crime?
@TooOld4School -just in case you’re truly asking- this is from the Department of Justice.
I don’t agree with any law that punishes thought (except incitement to violence). Regular laws are sufficient. I wonder if this is going to be another murder coverup by bombs , like several of the drug tampering cases in the past few decades. Not that it mattered to the young man and his family. Very sad.
There are no laws that punish thought, only “acts of physical harm and specific criminal threats”.
Often, bombs are associated with terrorism, and terrorists are often haters.

Two of the victims were family friends. The third lived two doors away from an unrelated person who shared a surname with one of the other two.
Fourth one occurred last night in a upper middle-class neighborhood in southwest Austin. Two young men in their 20’s were injured but expected to be okay. This one they think was a backpack and triggered by a trip wire.
This last explosion was less than a mile and a half from my sister’s house, and also close to a CC user (yes, Sis and the user know each other IRL - we discovered that accidentally).
Were the last two victims POC?
^No, they weren’t.
The police seem convinced, though, that it’s the same bomb-maker, even though the trigger, the neighborhood, and the method of delivery were very different. They are not being specific about it, but apparently the style of the bomb was the same.
The first three bombs seem to have been targeted, although one or more may have missed their primary target. The last seems to have been set up to be triggered by some random passer-by, which is apparently what happened.

Another explosion, this time at a FedEx facility in Texas.
The package was apparently sent from Austin and addressed to somewhere in Austin.
I know I got a package I didn’t remember ordering yesterday and it scared me to open it. People in Austin must be going crazy.
I wonder if this bomber, knowing the FBI must be getting close, is just throwing it all out there at this point.
