I agree with theendusputrid about posts in general… people often take CC way too seriously. Just be nice and lighten up, y’all! There are so many more inappropriate things on the internet than these non-graphic inquiries about inevitable aspects of college life. Yes, there’s a line that can be cross, but this is nowhere near it. If you’re really that offended, you’re in for a rude awakening when you actually get to college. Being accepting and open-minded is invaluable in college and beyond.

Moving on…

No, you don’t have to leave your college to play beer pong, but it’s doubtful you and your friends will always have enough beer around to just start a pick-up game. I was just suggesting Sid 7th and Jones North because they’re known for playing lots and lots of BP, even during the week. But really, there’s typically stuff going on at each college. Other “social epicenters,” if you will, include Brown 2nd, Will Rice Long Hall (although they’ll be at McMurtry next year so “long hall” won’t actually be long hall), the Martel Sallyport, and Lovett 2nd, to name a few. Every college has one or two areas where most of the partying happens. And no, it’s really not that awkward to go to another college as long as you don’t make it awkward. It usually helps to go in a small group and know at least someone there, but it’s not hard to know at least one person at each college by the second week of classes. Besides, leaving your college is fun and healthy.

Trivia Night can be a lot of fun, but it’s mostly hit or miss. Some weeks the place is packed and some weeks it isn’t. A lot of it has to do with the trivia topic and if midterms/finals are around the corner. Thursday nights at pub can also draw a crowd just because it’s Thursday. And Tuesday nights often host College Pub Nights, when your college gets together (usually once a semester) and pays for food and drink out of the budget. Although they’re sponsored by specific colleges, they’re still open to the entire campus.

Don’t worry about it too much, though. Should you decide to come to Rice, you’ll find out very quickly when to go where for a good time. Just know that there’s plenty of stuff going on around campus; and that goes for non-partying activities, as well.

What other schools are you considering?

@ waesei- I wouldn’t say that Rice students frequent the bars in Houston unless they’re 21+. It’s much easier and safer (RUPD >>> HPD) to drink on campus. Some underclassmen still go out, but I think one of the great things about Rice is that most of the fun to be had is on campus or sometimes at a house or apartment within walking distance. It’s really convenient.
