Ticketmaster Class Action Lawsuit

I think this is going to end up being a bust. No way with the limited # of venues within reasonable driving distance of people are going to be able to accommodate even a fraction of the ticket holders.

I looked on the Live Nation web site and there’s a map of all their venues. These free tickets seem to apply to only about half of them, and none of the international ones.

Here are the cities: Albuquerque, Alpharetta GA, Atlanta, Auburn WA, Bristow VA, Burgettstown PA, Camden NJ, Charlotte, Chula Vista CA, Concord CA, Cuyahoga Falls OH, Dallas, Darien Center NY, Elkhart WI, Holmdel NJ, Indianapolis, Irvine, Mansfield MA, Maryland Heights MO, Miami, Mountain View CA, Nashville, Noblesville IN, Phoenix, Raleigh, San Bernadino, Saratoga Springs, Scranton, Tampa, Tinley Park, IL, Virginia Beach, West Palm Beach, Wheatland CA.

Leaves out most of the giant center of the country.

Many of the venues also seem to be outdoor amphitheater type events - probably for the $25 lawn seats - still nice, but really, that’s a very limited venue option.

I think the list of venues will grow. LN has a lot more venues. And they did say they will keep updating the list.

Chula Vista, CA and Irvine, CA are both outdoor amphitheaters. These both work for me.

The news gets worse- ticketmaster has pledged to give away $10 million in tickets for concerts through May 2017. Once that $10 million is used up, it’s over. Most people will not be able to redeem their free ticket vouchers since more than $200 million in vouchers were issued, and so many markets have no venue to use them at.

@greenwitch The way I’ve read the info - and I just skimmed it - it is $10.5 million per year over the next 4 years ($42 million total) of the fee vouchers that have to be cashed in for Ticketmaster to avoid having to offer up the free tickets.

"This part gets into the weeds a bit, but if you’re curious, read on. The company said on Tuesday it would provide $10 million in ticket vouchers for concerts through May 2017.

How many free tickets become available beyond that amount depends on how many of the $2.25 and $5 discount codes are used. The settlement requires Ticketmaster to pay out $42 million over four years, and no less than $10.5 million per year. Should the use of $2.25 and $5 discount codes fall short of those targets, Ticketmaster would make up the difference by releasing more free tickets."

Nothing like making it complicated! :expressionless:

So it may pay off to wait beyond this year/summer. More venues/better concerts might show up and people will have forgotten they have them to redeem.

@doschicos - right, but they’ve issued something like 368 million in vouchers and discounts together and they aren’t obligated to let them all be redeemed.

I would feel better if I could actually redeem one or two of those vouchers now instead of in the mythical future. I don’t trust them.

I agree with your sentiments, @greenwitch. The only shows listed for vouchers near me are either heavy metal or country and you’d have to pay me to go see either of those genres, not just give me a free ticket.

We tried to get some tickets. First the site had issues, then our city venues disappeared, and then my internet went down. I took that as a sign.

Every time I try to get the general admissions tix they say they are “unable to process my request”. Bunch of baloney.

We aren’t the only people complaining. This article includes some pretty humorous tweets about the situation: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/06/22/ticketmaster-tries-redeeming-itself-with-millions-of-free-tickets-but-fans-arent-happy/?wpisrc=nl_p1most-partner-1&wpmm=1. Like: “These Ticketmaster vouchers are like finding money in your couch cushions, then realizing it’s foreign currency from a failed state.”

I think we need a class action suit about how the settlement of the class action suit is being handled in an intentionally convoluted and complicated way.

NPR had a brief story on it today and the speaker stated that Ticketmaster releases a limited number of seats for the free vouchers on a daily basis and doesn’t seem to update the special website links when those seats are gone.

That is just awful! It’s like we need the special ticket code to have a chance at the 3 seats available. Why do they play these games?

Because they can.

Same old come-on, lots of free attention paid to Ticketmaster.
Priceless. :frowning:

Well, you’d think they wouldn’t want the negative attention they are receiving however, as basically a monopoly, they probably give a rat’s patootie about that. They control the market for ticket purchases. They really are the ticket master and we are the slaves.
