I just saw this on Twitter:
Another thanks. Just snagged 4 tickets. We’re dying to see it but can’t afford the outrageous prices the resellers are getting. Now, I have to keep my fingers crossed that H,D, & S will be able to go. If not, I hope the reselling market stays strong!
missypie, I saw that announcement yesterday and was stunned to see that the tix being offered were for September and October of next year! Who can make plans that far in advance? What are the chances of Lin-Manuel Miranda still being the lead actor?
I wonder if there are no systems in place to keep “resellers” from snagging blocks of tickets.
So D1 lives on the east coast and is always up and at work before I get up. When I woke up this morning, she had texted me/sent me emails, etc. to let me know about this new block of tickets because I had just started reading the book by Ron Chernow last night and had posted it via Goodreads on my Facebook page. I didn’t get back to her soon enough, so she made some ‘executive’ decisions. She had already bought tickets, booked our hotel and booked her train from Boston. Unfortunately, she did not have time to prepare me for the sticker shock. The article she sent me said tickets were between $67-177. All I can say is, HA! In my dreams. So guess where I’m going in June? I told her at least it would give me enough time to finish the book - it’s 800+ pages!
Although Lin is great in the show, for those who have yet to see it, I would worry more about a few others not being there in September.
There is clearly no system to prevent reselling of tickets. When the Ticketmaster site indicates an ‘approved reseller’, you know they are never going to stop it.
p.s. Lots of people make plans this far in advance for trips to NYC to see theatre! ![]()
As in Daveed Diggs? I haven’t seen the show yet, but after obsessing over the soundtrack for a while, seems like he’d be difficult to replace. (But what do I know? I don’t claim to be an expert on rap artists.)
How did we get tickets for June if it was through Ticketmaster? I know they’re from Ticketmaster because my daughter forwarded me the email.
It’s funny, I saw Hamilton during the last week of previews and it’s worth the price and lives up to the hype. However, as amazing as the cast is, I think it will survive cast changes. The music and the staging are the key to this one. It was great to see Lin-Manuel in the role and show he created, but I do think it will still be wonderful when he (and the rest of the original cast) moves on. I must admit, it took the better part of the first act for my ear to adjust to the rapping. I mentioned it to my kids (+one girlfriend) and they all said it was because I’m unaccustomed to the genre…in other words, I’m old! I never buy tickets far in advance but I bought these the day they went on pre-sale for AmEx cardholders, and paid full preview prices. For 6 of us, it was the best money I’ve ever spent on an event. We live locally, so at least my only other cost was dinner for the crew - no hotel or transportation necessary. But really, and I’m not someone who goes to the theatre a lot, it was worth it. Really.
Ticketmaster also sells tickets called something like “certified resale”, where they guarantee that they’re real (not fake) tickets. Or, if your daughter bought them early enough, she could have paid face value for the tickets.
Daveed is very good, yes, but the ones I would not want to miss would be:
Leslie Odom Jr.
Renee Elise Goldsberry
Jonathan Groff
Philippa Soo
Chris Jackson
Would it say ‘certified resale’ in the email?
Just looked at mine. It doesn’t say in the email (although if you do the math and it’s more than $170 per ticket and they aren’t premium tickets, they are likely resale.) If you go into ticketmaster and then view tickets and then click on price detail, it will say “resale” if they are resale.
Any of you catch the 60 Minutes profile? It was riveting!
^^There is additional footage on the CBS website on 60 Minutes Overtime.
So thrilled to hear about all of the excitement about Hamilton given a local young lady from our very small town is in the chorus. She and my kids have been in theater and dance shows together since they were 5.
This young lady and my S have been in many plays to together as leads. S is still in theater locally. His leading lady is in Hamilton, the hottest play on Broadway! Kinda wish it was the other way around.
@morrismm, is she one of the dancers? All of them were excellent.
@missypie - I just read your comment about obsessing over the Hamilton soundtrack. That is me right now. I can’t stop listening to it. It’s so good!!
On the bright side, I’m getting an education. I keep looking up various facts and people that are mentioned in the songs. I now know more about Alexander Hamilton than I ever thought I would. And my daughter wants to visit his house and the cemetery where he is buried during our trip to NYC. She’s obsessed too
benreb - We have visited Alexander Hamilton’s house up in Harlem twice. It is worth a trip. My boss and her H are headed to NYC for a week at Thanksgiving and are going to see Hamilton. I’m excited to hear what she thinks!
Well, I’m not quite 5% into the 800+ page book, and I could say the same thing! ;))
And the book hasn’t cost me a fraction of what the show has so far.
(to be fair, I tend to only read at night time because no matter what time of day it is, after 30-45 minutes, I get sleepy, even on my Kindle; so this book is going to take me a LONG time to read).
Remember that 750 page David McCullough biography of John Adams that came out a few years ago? I felt the same way. Then I got the flu. Once I was well enough to return to work, I’ll leave work exhausted every day at about 3 or 4…I’d come home and recline on the couch and read that biography…got it finished in no time. I wouldn’t wish the flu on anyone, however.
