Tickets to Hamilton on Broadway

Just saw this thread. My D is obsessed with Hamilton and the soundtrack.

We plan to see the show in Chicago next Thanksgiving break or Christmas break, hopefully. I’m thinking of buying season tickets for Broadway of Chicago, too, so husband and I can see some other shows, too.

My D plays the soundtrack constantly at home - it’s starting to grow on me, I like it!

I need to start listening to the soundtrack BeeDAre. I like to be familiar with the music before I see a show. D doesn’t like to hear it until she sees the show. Different strokes, I guess.

I have orchestra seats for the first matinee in March. Feel fortunate to have them – got them when I saw this thread first posted. (OOPS – See correction below)

H and I have the cast album and the book – are reading it simultaneously. Excellent, but over 800 pages.

I am obsessed with Miranda – for his talent plus the fact that things have apparently not gone to his head. Love his father’s comment about his humility in this article

“A genius? I’m not sure what that word means,” his father said one morning. “What I admire most about him is his humility.”

EDITED to correct:

It was not this thread, but a previous Hamilton thread, that induced me to act to get tix in early October. So glad the CC community encouraged early action – and even that much in advance, best I could do was a Wed. matinee in March – hubby will take the day off (works in suburban NYC).

I paid an insane amount of money for a single orchestra seat to see the original cast of “The Producers” when I was in law school. If I’d known how much I was going to like it, I would have paid double. I was high for two weeks off that show.

I could be wrong, but I think that “Hamilton” is the kind of show where they will find fantastic young talent for the tour, and it won’t suffer much from losing the original cast. There’s a special power in seeing its creator, but I’m betting that there will be equally fantastic performers in the role.

I think you are right @Hanna. My D is determined to see Hamilton with Miranda and if the subway hadn’t shut down to day she was going to try to get in the lottery for tickets today, thinking it might be easier because of the snow. Boy am I glad she didn’t try that! I keep reminding her we saw In the Heights after he left and loved every minute of it. Frankly, I saw a high school production of that show that blew me away because it is just that good. He is a special kind of genius and we are blessed to have him. But there will be amazing talent in the touring production and subsequent Broadway casts as well.

Although I agree that the touring company will be filled with talented actors, I will say that if you can possibly see this exquisite original Broadway cast, please do it. It is difficult to imagine anyone coming close to the performance that Leslie Odom, Jr. is giving eight times a week. If he isn’t nominated for a Tony, I will be shocked. This cast is a terrifically talented one, each and every actor. As much as I love Lin-Manuel, he is not the highlight of this cast!

^^ And I thoroughly enjoyed Daveed Diggs’ interpretation of Thomas Jefferson !

So did I. Won lottery tickets and sat second row center. D and I saw In the Heights again at the very end of the Broadway run when Miranda had returned to the cast. He is indeed an amazing talent.

Video of Miranda honoring his elementary scHool music teacher:

Even more amazing is video of his teacher watching the above video. But it was on FBso I’m not sure the link would work.

When the weather is better, members of the cast do short performances (called Ham4Ham) so that those who’ve been waiting for the lottery get to see a small performance even if they don’t get tickets. Here’s a collection: http://www.vulture.com/2016/01/hamiltons-ham4ham-preshow-complete-compendium.html

If nothing else, check out the October 24 entry (the three actors who’ve performed King George lip synch The Schuyler Sisters).

Lucky all of y’all who get to see it now–I’m gonna have to wait for the touring company to come to California. :frowning:

There were several thousand disappointed people who held tickets for yesterday’s performances. I feel bad for them.

I can’t even imagine how sad I’d have been if I bought resale tickets at more than face value. :frowning:

My D’s friend (who is in the Hamilton cast–understudy and ensemble) got us tickets for the performance last night. Great show–the rap worked wonderfully. Leslie Odom.Jr as Burr was my favorite. We got to go backstage too, which was really fun. This is a show worth seeing!

It’s a cast recording, not a sound track, and a great one, even coming from someone like me, who doesn’t typically like musical theatre.

Bought season tix for the LA series containing the show, so seeing it in August 2017!
