Tiger may win Elin back with $200M anti-cheating clause.

This could be an “all business” type of transaction. Everyone knows sponsors prefer a married man with a beautiful wife and kids. Perhaps he needs the money.

don’t agree on the “for sake of the children” comment.
For a child to learn that a wife must tolerate a low-life cheater, and liar (that we know of) and, maybe worse, is not a good lesson for the children.
To learn that won’t be tolerated and that people can make it own their own is a much better lesson. Teach children to be strong, independent, self-supporting, and to choose a mate based on want, not on need. This isn’t “Pride and Prejudice”. Those days are over.

We are very quick to judge when in effect, all we can do is to jusdge ourselves. We know all the fact about ourselves, we do not know facts about others. I am definitely not familiar with either of them, who lied more who did less, to assume that somebdoy never ever lied in her entire life is not reasonable. All we have just assumptions, the stupidity reported in very unreliable publications. I am not saying that anybody is a saint or complete evil. I am saying that we do not know a lot of true facts. And we never will and there are plenty of people who judge us in a very negative way even if we are close to being perfect, I have no doubts about that.

If they’re talking marriage then they’re probably already back in the sack. So, why not make it “legit?”

There are reports that they are “intimate” already.

What we don’t know (or at least I don’t know) is what their life together was like before the cheating came out. If it was–or seemed to be–pretty good, then maybe she can believe that it can be recaptured if the cheating stops. And maybe it can.

I think that’s where she’s coming from. I think she was happy and probably does think that sans-cheating, they can have a nice life.

But she didn’t tolerate him. She divorced him, left him, and made him grovel back into her life. Its not like the kids will never know the history of what happened to him as a result of his actions. He became a pariah.

A more important lesson for the kids is that there were terrible consequences for his lying, cheating ways; that people can move on and forgive, and that the welfare of the children must be the most important consideration in a couple’s life.

Younghoss, can’t remember the last time I agreed with you… but here we are. He was a serial cheater with women who really didn’t mean a thing to him for many years. He didn’t care enough about his wife and kids on the first go-around to treat them right, why would this time be any different? This reminds me of those promises people make to give money to a charity they hate if they mess up on their diet or something. So… eventually I bet he resents her (even more) when he can’t play around again or he has to pay HER (double annoyance on his part). If they do go at it again, I bet he ends up paying her off and leaving again in the end.

Cheaters can change, if he actually got himself help to figure out why he cheated, there is hope. The 200 million was as people said, it was designed to protect her from his wandering eye, Tiger might have been a horn dog, but that is the kind of money even he can’t rationalize around. I hope he did the work and actually was able to understand what he did, why it was so foul, my take on these situations is unless the cheater can feel the pain and empathize, something at the beginning, I couldn’t sense from him, they are likely to be able to do it again…

Hopefully they are doing it for the right reasons, that they have feelings for each other and really have the spark that never died and so forth, the romantic side of me wishes so. Given Elin’s reaction when the crap hit the fan, she really had feelings for him, that was no act, that really was someone who loved him and felt every ounce of the pain (and I don’t care what people wanted to say, no money would erase that).

I just hope this isn’t something being done for convenience, whether it is the kids, or because it looks better to sponsors or some such, because kids are amazing, they read through the BS parents try to put up and they will sense whether this is real or not.

I honestly wish them well, I never had negative feelings about her, and I think he has suffered enough that whatever ill will I once had for him, I no longer do, and I hope both of them are able to heal and this isn’t just some shallow BS.

I don’t know what’s best for them, so I won’t presume to say. But I feel very strongly that comments like “cheaters never change” or the like are cheap sayings. It’s easy to be glib and dismissive. People do change; we don’t live in an absolute world. Do they often? Perhaps not. But I think most of us know someone who grew and changed from the way they were earlier in life. I sure hope I’m still learning as i grow older.

Now, again, does that mean Tiger has? I can’t possibly know. Elin probably has more insight than we do. I think real forgiveness following real repentance is a thing that exists in this world, and I can’t imagine dismissing someone for granting it.

Well, I would not have predicted this outcome. He could have kept on with his promiscuous lifestyle. I have thought for some time, based on his sub-Tiger level play, that he got some help and either toned the philandering down or quit it. If he has reformed, and she is big enough to forgive him and take him back, good for them, and even better for the kids.

We live in a very small town that is very golf centric. We have social connections with people in golf media, with touring pros and tournament support people. By all accounts, Tiger is still a pompous, petulant jerk.

For her kid’s sake, I think Elin should read up on Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

Garland, post 49. Outstanding.

Not to be cynical but Tiger is not doing this out of love for his kids, his bikini-clad ex-wife, but because she was his magic charm - he won when he was married to her and although he’s doing better on the pro circuit, he’s not the same awe-inspiring gifted type of golfer. If she went for this, AND then his game doesn’t improve? I think she’d be dismissed.

I don’t believe in a blanket “once a cheater, always a cheater.” But this was different. He was a blatant serial cheater, which to me suggests a pretty big character flaw, and perhaps a personality disorder, which doesn’t just disappear without a whole hell of a lot of therapy, and even then it may not really improve all that much.

But if she goes for it, I wish them luck.

I’m not at all opposed to people staying married for the sake of the children - or rather, working hard to salvage their marriage in order to stay married. And I agree that people can change, and that decent people may cheat under certain circumstances. But Tiger’s egregious cheating was … something else again.

Now, I am manifestly no Elin. I couldn’t forgive that kind of cheating and would be troubled by my kids having contact with a man capable of it, father or no. I wouldn’t know how to begin explaining his behavior to them. But if she loves him, or can forgive him for the sake of their children, more power to her. I wish her, and the children, well.

sorry you missed the point, Bay. If she goes back with him, then it sends the message she is tolerating it. The divorce (by itself) would show she wasn’t tolerating it - going back together shows just the opposite. Going back together isn’t a “terrible consequence” it is a bump in the road.

No, it shows she has the capacity for forgiveness. I have come later in life than I should have to developing that capacity, but it’s an important one. Who knows how they really feel about one another? People are imperfect.

Way back when, when the scandal first broke, so to speak, we had a long thread about Tige r in the cafe. at the time I said I thought he suffered from sex addiction. I still believe his behavior was so compulsive and self-destructive that that was what he was dealing with. Addiction is not about other people. So, if he has been successfully treated and figured out the way he can now live his life in a monogomous way, there is no reason to believe that he cannot.

All that said, if she is currently already in a relationship with Tiger, then she has feelings for him still. If she wants to try again with the father of her children, who she clearly loved and may still love? What business is it of ours?

She has been dating jocks and an investment guy based out of China so it has probably dawned on her that those guys are traveling all the time and dont have to be faithful. So she is right back where she started. And sitting on a pot of money she has a target on her for every oily lothario out there (shades of Britney Spears). Unless she is done with romance at 33, this is going to be a nightmare for her.

Meanwhile Tiger is probably tired of all these ridiculous gold digging bimbos with their tanning and pneumatic enhancements. And elaborate procedures to see his own kids. And maybe he finally got his cell phone technology worked out

Them getting back together makes perfect sense. I just hope they keep it private and dont return Diane Sawyers calls.

I do not believe in people’s changing either. Yes, they can change to the extand of being much more careful and much smarter about what they do. They will not change in what they do. So, you are taking person back because of certain reasons, but not for the reason that he will change. It will not happen, you like it or not, it is the fact, you can hate me for saying so, but I cannot change either, I say what I think not what people expect me to say. That is my way, not big on pleasing others.
