Tiger Woods

All I’ve heard prior to this story is that Tiger is a jerk. The projection and speculation that people have is absolutely ridiculous.

No one here blames Elin for selling out. I don’t blame the mistresses either…it sounds like many of them were fed the same line of bull he’s been feeding Elin since he took vows with her. I’m sure they want their compensation too, just like his wife does. ;)

I’m sorry that I don’t watched TV because I’d have loved to have seen this:

"NEW YORK - Tiger Woods and his marital problems proved a tempting target for “Saturday Night Live.”

In a skit and multiple “Weekend Update” jokes this weekend, NBC’s comedy institution took on the golfer, who has admitted to letting his family down with “transgressions” that came to light following a strange Thanksgiving weekend car accident outside his Florida home.

In one skit, actor Jason Sudeikis portrayed Wolf Blitzer on CNN’s “Situation Room” reporting on a news conference that Woods (played by Kenan Thompson) and his wife (played by Blake Lively) were holding outside his home. After Woods admitted to “multiple” transgressions, his wife looked surprised and the screen quickly shifted back to Blitzer.

“Breaking news,” Blitzer said. “Tiger Woods is back in the hospital. Apparently just hours after a press conference where he confessed to multiple transgressions, Woods had an accident in his home where he fell down a flight of stairs then inadvertently threw himself through a plate glass window.”

Woods returned for a later news conference, his wife brandishing a golf club next to him, where he said, “Wow, I’ve been really clumsy this week.

He had more such “accidents,” then returns to read a prepared statement with the words “help me” and “I’m scared” written on the back of the papers for the audience to see…"
[?SNL? can?t resist Tiger Woods jokes - Television- msnbc.com](http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/34300130/ns/entertainment-television/)

^^I saw that…it was absolutey hilarious! I’m sure it’s already on YouTube.

Now that the parade of mistresses seems to be endless, I’ve been thinking about what Tiger can do to salvage his image.

I am convinced that as someone had earlier suggested on this thread, he will try to excuse himself by saying he’s a sex addict. He’ll announce that he’s going into treatment, and he’ll ask for privacy for his family and him as they cope with his illness.

Meanwhile, from what has come out in the tabloids, I don’t think he’s a sex addict. If he truly were a sex addict, we’d be seeing more variety in his mistresses – not just drop dead gorgeous women who look similar to each other and seem to work as cocktail waitresses and in similar jobs.

However claiming to be a sex addict would probably be more likely to result in public sympathy than if he said what I suspect is the truth: “I’m a narcissist who cares only about myself.”

I agree with Northstarmom. Unfortunately, I don’t think you can cure “lack of character” in therapy. This was all so entertaining, but as more women come out of the woodwork, it is getting to be more and more disgusting.

with more and more women coming forward, do you think his wife will stay?

would she be worried about std’s?

this is fast becoming a very, very sad story…

I read that there is a strong belief by many mental health experts that there is no such thing as “sexual addiction” just sexual narcissism.

Would someone explain how there might be more sympathy for a “sex addict” than for someone whose sexual narcissism (which I have read we all have to SOME degree) has reached the disorder stage?

condor30–stds. aids etc would be an extreme concern. IMO it was always a very sad story.

"
Would someone explain how there might be more sympathy for a “sex addict” than for someone whose sexual narcissism (which I have read we all have to SOME degree) has reached the disorder stage?"

Because to some, “addiction” would indicate one has a disease that occurred through no fault of one’s own.

"with more and more women coming forward, do you think his wife will stay?

would she be worried about std’s?"

Whether she stays may depend on how much money he’s willing to pay her for staying, and how good he is at lying.

She may not worry about STDs if she decides not to have sex with him any more. They could decide to have a completely sham marriage.

OK-- that’s why I was interested in the literature since sexual narcissism that has reached a disorder level seems to not be the person’s “fault,” apparently.

I’d think that whether a person’s repeated marital infidelity was due to sexual narcissism or sexual addiction, it would be up to that person to actively and in good faith work on getting well.

Whether those immediately, directly and personally affected can or will stick it out with that person through what I imagine will be a very, very long and rough journey is another matter.

Beyond sad. I’d hate to be a kid whose two options for response were (1) Dad’s a scum-bag, horn-dog or (2) Dad has a probably incurable, sexual narcissism personality disorder.

“I’d think that whether a person’s repeated marital infidelity was due to sexual narcissism or sexual addiction, it would be up to that person to actively and in good faith work on getting well.”

I agree. I think, too, that in Tiger’s case, his disorder may not bother him that much. He’s likely to keep winning tournaments, making money and having lucrative sponsorship offers. Gorgeous women will continue to be willing to have sex with him. If his wife leaves him, there will be some other beautiful woman who’d be glad to marry him even if he continues his philandering ways.

People only seriously try to get cured of an addiction when the pain of the addiction is so severe that it is more than is the pleasure of pursuing the addiction. It’s hard to imagine that Tiger is at or will get to that point.

^^ Following along with NSMs post- Addicts usually have to “hit bottom” before they seek some treatment. With women that is usually losing a relationship and with me it is more frequently losing a job. I don’t see a lot of incentive for Tiger to change significantly.

I could see some of his sponsors dropping him now after the news of the past 24 hours. But given his ability to make money actually playing golf, that certainly won’t put him near the poverty limit. It will be interesting to see how fans react; I can’t recall many “boos” on the golf course over the year, but I don’t think too many people will be sympathetic if a camera “happens” to click during his backswing going forward. A lot of people will be actively rooting for him NOT to break Nicklaus’ majors record now. D’s boyfriend was a big Tiger fan, but he is taking down the Tiger poster in his dorm room. D says he is getting a nice golf course picture instead, since you don’t have to worry about the character of a putting green  We weren’t even sure that you COULD get posters of very many PGA members besides Tiger if you wanted to.

Oh, and I have to admit, I don’t think of Tiger as having promoted his own squeaky clean image. He has always preferred just to play golf, and does not care for interviews or publicity (unless he is hawking something for a sponsor and has to).

Maybe he might pick up Viagra as a new sponsor?

I don’t think that Tiger is going for the Bob Dole image.

on his FB fan page, there is a post in october where someone asks him why he’s not in the tabloids…and his response is that he and his wife are “boring”…
that post is getting alot of comment activity now as you can imagine…

how ironic that he’s now tabloid fodder, subject of snl skit, etc…

how disingenious of him to post that in october if the stories of the mistresses are true.

purpleflurp-
You’ve taken to reading the Thaindian news??

And as for Tiger’s sponsorship from Viagra?? I think his putter is working just fine at the moment. Maybe he could be sponsored by saltpeter?

^^What can I say? To follow Tiger’s story, one has to get around… ;)

^^^Huh??? I think these days one has to be living under a rock not to be bombarded with news of Tiger’s exploits. Not sure the Thaindian news is the first place most would rush to read for the late-breaking Tiger-tales (pun intended).
