Okay, so I’m going to be a high school junior this fall and I just noticed how fast times goes by. My grades for the first two years of my high school life were okay, but nothing fantastic. I’m starting to freak out about college. I know it’s a few years away, but this year is the most important for grades and I’m just a little worried about it, I mean, ACT and SAT tests and prep for English AP exam for senior year. I recently got a 77% on my Geometry REGENTS and my dad said that I’m probably not going to get into the college I want, but I’m not going to college for math, I’m going for English and Theatre. Does that matter or would that grade really falter my chances in getting into my dream college? Do those test score really matter in the long run?

What colleges are you looking at?

Honestly I wouldn’t worry too much over the regents so long as the rest of your grades are good. I got a 76% on Math B regents and got sub par/average grades my first two years of high school.

11th grade I buckled down with AP Chem and by 12th managed to get a 95 overall average as a senior. I don’t know how competitive the colleges you’re looking at are, however I got into a decent state school and managed to show the admissions counselors that I had really worked hard as a senior rather than slacking off towards the end.

Never give up and junior year is a great time to change things. Work on studying to get a proper SAT and ACT score and try to raise the GPA with the classes you’re taking this year. What is your dream school BTW?
Right now you could get into a good school but I can’t say anything for something like an Ivy or a top LAC.

Im going to be a junior too, and i dont know anything about colleges. I dont really know whats ACT and such. Im also confident im going to do bad on the SAT. Ive done alright in freshman and sophmore year, and i realized if i dont flip my whole study and sleeping habits around im gonna bomb junior year.

Yeah, I’m not looking to get into an Ivy League school. SUNY Potsdam is my dream school, but MCLA is getting up there too.

I’m starting to buckle down and get my act together right now so I can go into school this year with a plan and a better work ethic. I’m actually reading my summer reading for AP English, which I guess is a good idea. Not to mention that the books aren’t that bad after I got passed the first couple chapters.

Thanks for the advice!
