Time to learn Korean! Hurrah! But how?

Hey all!

I’ve decided that it’s time I learned my fourth language, Korean, this summer. The problem is, I’ve only learned other languages in classroom settings and done only so-so attempting to teach myself Russian (to the point where I dropped it altogether). So, I’m looking for a good way to learn a language on my own.

I’ve heard Rosetta Stone is good…? But also pricey. Then again, I can’t seem to find many “learn Korean” websites anywhere, so maybe it’s the best option. Other than that, I have no idea where to look.

If you’ve ever taught yourself a language and/or learned Korean and have any insight to share, please do! And, if anyone knows of a good website for language learning, feel free to share that as well!

Thanks

watch Korean dramas

I have a friend that uses Memrise.

There are two major Korean learning websites that I’ve heard of: talktomeinkorean.com (they also sell good workbooks/textbooks!) and there is also howtostudykorean.com. Both are great sites, with strengths in different areas.

I’ve been learning Korean for a month or two but I haven’t done much due to school work. Something like Anki or Memrise is good for building vocabulary (you want something with SRS [spaced repetition system])

The thing you should start with first is learning Hangul, then you can learn vocab and grammar from there. If you have any questions, feel free to ask

It’s too late for this summer but you can apply for next year: http://www.nsliforyouth.org/

Thanks everyone! These responses really helped!

Hi! I’ve been self studying korean for almost a year. The main sites i use are talktomeinkorean and howtostudykorean (their memrise vocab is quite good). Lately i have been in an online korean study group (PM if you want to join, its a great community!). I also use online PDF textbooks (korean grammar in use is really good, u mat be able to find a download link online). There are a lot of korean resources online (youtube, tumblr, apps, etc) just keep searching! For dictionaries/translators, i recommend Naver or Daum Dictionaries (app and website), and for some fun practice, naver webtoons. Just PM if you want more resources or practice! i hope your studies go well!
