Well it’s that time again… time to buy things we may not need but they are such a deal!! There is something that I probably should have ordered a few days ago b/c there aren’t many left and the price is higher on other sites, but ow it won’t arrive (if I order) until after we go out of town. Trying to reach neighbors to see if they will be home…
What is on your shopping list??
We’d like to buy a SamSung Ultra phone with 1 Tb of memory. I also need to buy 100% merino wool tank top (one or two—lost one in Japan). I will wait to see if either is at a tempting price as neither is urgently needed.
I would keep my eyes open for another bath g suit or two. Some of mine are years old and finally showing age. I have had luck with a couple Amazon brands but may not wait till Prime Days.
I also would like a new nice pool inflatable pool lounger - so I can store it more easily no -pool months - but because it’s summer not sure if they will go on sale.
Well, found the missing tank top—yay (it was in bottom of washer—didn’t look as closely as I should have). It would still be nice to get a spare. I’ve found 100% merino wool tanks with 100% merino wool long-sleeved tops keep me comfortable on a nice range of temps.
Added benefit is the wool DOESN’T stink, even after repeated wearing. (Probably helps that I rarely ever perspire.)
Well this is not about buying anything from Amazon now, but it’s the way something occurred with a recent order.
My frixion pens were running out of ink. These are used on fabric in sewing that dissolve with an iron or with water.
I wasn’t in a hurry for them, so I put it in my cart and checked “free delivery” for Monday. I ordered it Thursday night.
I clicked on the bullet for “Monday free delivery”. The next thing I know it went to the next window and had a $2.99 delivery charge. I was going to fight it but thought I’ll wait till it posts to my credit card.
So I received the pens the next morning. This was also the bag where the baby scorpion appeared!
About two weeks later, I get a notice from Amazon indicating that they had credited my account for $2.99, because they realized that I had asked for a later delivery.
Maybe they’ve done it to a number of people and figured that they’re going to get a class action lawsuit from someone like me who would file that.
Just be careful on your delivery dates because their program is automatically charging you for faster delivery even though it wasn’t an option that you checked.
It’s very offputting and slimy.

I’ve noticed Amazon has been randomly bumping out delivery dates. I’ll pick next day (free) and maybe it comes, maybe I get a notice that it’s not coming until the next day or days later. Sometimes I’ve been able to cancel and repurchase the exact same item and get it sooner than the original item with the bumped-out date. I don’t know if that’s a driver issue because I live in a city with multiple warehouses.
On to the sale - I have a bunch of hair styling-related items in my cart and some skin care. we’ll see if any go on sale. I also have some jeans in my saved-for-later that I don’t really need but if they go on sale, I may purchase.
Hmmm, I guess folks aren’t very excited about the upcoming prime day. Our S isn’t either.
Every Prime day, I’m convinced that I’ll find a great deal on….something. And I never have! So now you’re right, it’s not too exciting for me.
I’ve never managed to find any earth shattering deals on Amazon prime days.
I keep a couple wish lists on Amazon - one for personal things for me, one for the house. On Prime Day I just pull up those lists and it will tell me if any of my items are Prime sales.
And based on that, I’ll decide if I need anything or not! I will not spend time scouring the site simply for good deals.
I’ve found that black friday is still the best for good deals unless it’s something you want way before then.

Usually good for Amazon products - Kindles, Firesticks, Ring cameras, Alexa devices
I find the trick is to not get suckered into buying stuff I don’t really need just because it is marked down a bit!
This probably takes away the fun of discovering new products and the thrill of getting a deal, but this is a perfect situation for creating an AI price watch agent. For example, in the Google Gemini app, an automated daily price check for any number and type of Amazon products can be made, and a notification will only pop up on your screen when something is below your target price. I have a category of Kindle books on watch, with many that randomly go on sale for $1.99 or $2.99, saving me a small fortune. I imagine the same thing can be done for any store, or for checking prices across stores.
One can also use camelcamelcamel.com. It will show you the price history for a given product with Amazon as the seller as well as third-party sellers. It allows you set to set a price alert so that when the price drops below your desired threshold, it will email you.

H ordered a fitbit today. It was 14% off. We ordered our soundbar over the weekend. I was going to wait, but it was already $50 off and the sale was going to end Sunday.
