Tips and Tricks for Makeup Lovers!

Thanks, @PurplePlum - I liked that video showing how to use three eye shadow colors. Looks easy!

Thanks! I like those pinks! I have also used her eyeshadow and eyeliner demonstrations and really like the more youthful lift to my small eyes. What a difference.

That’s good to hear. Guess I’ll have to try it next time it’s on sale (it’s not part of their current Mother’s Day sale). One of our local Targets has a large expanded beauty section and yesterday I unfortunately tried a sample of It Confidence in a Cream. Omg! It felt so good I think I’m going to have to bite the bullet and get some.

I rub a generous amount of Vaseline on my hands and lips right before bed. It has worked well for me for many years and the price is right.

@elena13: If you are not already on the IT Cosmetics email list/enrolled in their loyalty program–I’d sign up. I purchase all of my IT Cosmetics stuff on sale–especially around the holidays where you can get like 30% or more off. Sometimes you can get an extra percentage off if you are part of their loyalty program. I buy a few of each product when on sale to stock up. They do have decent sales for sure–so keep a look out.

I do like the IT Cosmetics line and do use several of their products.

Where can you purchase the Bye Bye Redness Cream? Amazon or directly from It Cosmetics. I recently started using a medicated eyedrops that results in a little redness around my eyes that I’ve never had before (drives me nuts). I’ve been using LaMar Hydrating Illuminator–it seems OK, but it’s also pricey.

@Bromfield2: I buy mine directly from It Cosmetics because I like to take advantage of their sales. But Macys, Ulta, Amazon, etc. sells it. Sephora may sell it but I do not know for certain. I would imagine the major department stores sell it too.

I just noticed that is it 15% off at Macys!

Wow - can’t believe she’s 46 - she looks 26!

I’m going to try those. I currently use the Urban Decay Nakend pallets but only use 2-3 of the colors. I like the idea of the 3 shades!

IT products, including the IT Confidence in a Cream Anti-Aging Hydrating Moisturizer and the Bye Bye Redness Serum and Bye Bye Redness Neutralizing Color-Correcting Concealer Cream, are 20% off at Ulta today.

They have 20 brands at 20% off today - other brands include Tarte, Lancome, and Estee Lauder.

Good to know about the Ulta sale!

So I wanted to circle back to update on my progress with my make-up changes. I think @conmama was correct in her assessment of the Too Faced foundation that I bought. Although this foundation is medium coverage–it is buildable and it really does give me a more “perfect” face–if that makes sense. Whereas my IT Cosmetics foundation does a great job of covering up, but is a bit more natural looking on me.

Having said that, I do really, really like using the the Two Faced Foundation–especially more so for special events–ex. weddings, going out to dinner, etc. I don’t think that the Two Faced foundation looks unnatural on me by any means–it just gives me more of a together look. Hard to explain. I like that I now have two choices for foundation use. I like being able to choose my look each day!

I do use my new bronzing stick every day and really like it. I do not have to use a ton of it on each application–just a little works well for me and I like the depth of color it gives me–it has great staying power on my skin.

And I really am enjoying using those Glossier monochrome trio eye shadow palettes. So simple to use and I do not have to figure out myself which colors belong together–it is all there for me. It was so easy when I was packing for my last trip–I just tossed the palette in my make up bag and I was set for my eye shadow needs.

The one thing I still need to figure out is the best application technique for eyeliner. I was told a few years back that as you get older, you should not line underneath your entire eye–but obviously plenty of people do. So, I have just been lining the upper lid. But now I am wondering if I was given bad advice. I was also told to use a black/brown colored eyeliner and not a black colored one. I was told that solid black is too severe looking for my age–but now I am rethinking that advice as well.

I also want to try tinted moisturizer as others have mentioned above. Not sure how using tinted moisturizer will work with also using my redness color corrector beneath it–but I can play around with it and see.

For eyeliner, I use a medium-toned eyeshadow with a small liner brush underneath the eye. I use a darker color on top, typically a dark brown. On top I’ll use a pencil and eyeshadow combination, and will tight-line the waterline. I also only use mascara on my upper lashes.

For the bottom liner, I typically use a mid-tone brown or plum, depending on the eye look/color scheme I’m going with that day. I also sometimes smudge the bottom lash shadow liner. I find this technique/color choice gives it some definition, but is not too dark.

It may depend on your coloring - I am quite fair. But in general I have noticed when women my age wear black eyeliner on both the top and bottom, it looks quite harsh.

Thanks for the update. I’m going back to read the thread about these products, as I’ve forgotten. After watching Erica Taylor, I’ve given up lower liner. I have small eyes, and luckily, dark lashes. So I really don’t need it. But from my before and after pics, my eyes look larger without it and turn up more, rather than down. A game changer for me.

Upper eyeliner is a challenge as I have hooded eyes. What I’ve learned is if the skin folds at the corners, a winged look is almost impossible, as it gets muddled by the overlapping skin. There are ways around that for an evening dramatic look, but for the day, I’ve been following her video where you just thicken the outside edge and don’t go past the skin fold. It does give a lift.

I think there was some interest in purchasing the mini balms from Jones Road.

After I clicked on the Jones Road balm, I got a notification for this balm that is supposed to be a dupe for the Jones Road.

No first hand experience and I would read the reviews.

Thanks, deb922! I just ordered this in Nude Gardenia. I kept getting Instagram ads for Jones Road Miracle Balm but it seemed too pricey to gamble on sight-unseen. I’ll report back!

Thanks @deb922 . I am planning to order a few.

I recently tried two Clinique tinted moisturizers during a trip to Ulta due to reading about it here.

I really liked both but the shades that matched my skin best were slightly different - one a bit lighter than the other.

I ended up buying one type and was given a tiny sample container of the other. I’ve switched off wearing them for the past few weeks.

I highly recommend them! They are very sheer, which is exactly what I wanted. They do have a slight fragrance from the sunscreen I think. But if I touch my face after wearing them all day, my skin feels nice and soft, not oily or makeup-y.

I’ve used IT for years and years, but may be a Clinique convert now.

I’ve been using Jones Road Miracle Balm for almost 2 years now and am a fan. You can use a cream foundation under it if you are looking for a little more coverage. It’s a great natural look. It is a little sticky, and it does leave skin a little dewy/glowing. I think it’s a good option for older skin as regular powders and creams seem to settle in the (not always so fine) lines.

And yes, buy the minis to check out color and have something to travel with. I pretty much use only the dusty rose and sunkissed, but it’s nice to try options. They are for sale now.

I also have a Boom Stick, which is a nice way to add a little color/glow.
