Tips for AP Japanese The Summer Before?

What are some ways I can study for AP Japanese before entering the class?

I don’t know AP Japanese, but there are some general rules you can apply. If possible get Rosetta Stone- it is incredibly helpful to get some basics down (although I assume you know more than basics if you’re at the AP prep level). Buy some prep books- I find Barrons and Princeton Review to be the best. Maybe take a look at some practice exams.

Immerse yourself in the culture - read manga, watch anime, listen to talk shows, etc.

I’ve taken two years of Japanese that are considered prep for the AP exam. I would have to disagree in part with the posters above - Rosetta Stone has a terrible Japanese program and it is incredibly difficult to use. It’s a very discouraging way to learn. Also, be careful about Japanese media such as anime. It uses a LOT of slang and an informal style of speaking that will give you trouble on the AP exam. Enjoy manga and anime with a grain of salt, basically. If you’re going to spend money on any Japanese curriculum, buy the year 1 Adventures in Japanese textbook. It’s a fantastic book, as long as you apply yourself to it.

My daughter uses japanesepod101.com which has helped her a lot in listening and speaking.

I probably should have mentioned that I have taken three years of Japanese prior to this, I’m well aware of the different ways to learn Japanese. I was more so asking about how to study for AP Japanese itself, rather than Japanese language in general.
