Most every other sport gets a thread so here’s my (semi-)annual hockey thread.
As per usual, my preferences for the playoffs:
Red Wings win it all
Almost any other team wins it all
Apocalypse
Blackhawks or Penguins win.
Of course, I’m (kinda) joking. I don’t see my Wings getting that far. We just haven’t been able to get it together these last few years and it’s not from lack of talent.
I am cheering for the Penguins, I suppose, but they better hope that Fleury is back for the next game. I’m not unhappy to see the Blues up 2 games to 1 over Chicago, or the Preds up 1 game to nil over Anaheim, or the Sharks up 2 games to nil over the Kings.
I think that if all were fair in this world that it would be the Caps’ year to win the cup. A terrific regular season, they are a big, strong, very talented team with a fantastic goalie. And their fans deserve a win.
my Caps have a 2 game lead… Flyers goalie let in a puck from the red line in game 2.
Caps have blown more 2 game playoff leads than any team in the NHL, and have played 1/4 of the playoff series as the next teams behind them. I think the Caps are 9 in 39 series and the next teams are like 8 in 120 series.
The Caps roster is stronger than it has ever been.
I am afraid if we can’t win this year, that we will never win.
Caps are the favorite (according to Vegas odds), and I’m not sure that’s a good place to be.
I will continue to believe that my Caps will crash out of the playoffs in epic fashion… until they don’t.
@soccerguy315 You were who I was thinking of when I posted about the Caps. I know they have disappointed their fans time and time again (trust me, I know what that’s like as a Leafs fan!) but I honestly hope that this is their year.
Where are our other hockey fans here on CC? Still too early to get involved?
Radical, maybe season-saving turn of events for the Islanders yesterday. Florida scored to go up 3-0. Islanders challenged the play as offsides and won. Goal taken off the board. Seconds later, Florida takes a penalty and Isles score. Went from trailing 3-0 in their own building in pivotal game 3, to come back and win in OT.
The Washington Capitals are the Chicago Cubs of hockey.
My annual hope is for a Washington-Vancouver finally-one-of-them-won’t-blow-it-this-time Stanley Cup final (though, of course, that is not to be this year). The Caps seem to be doing well so far, but there’s a history, and the way they kind of limped into the playoffs, at least compared to the rest of their season, was worrying. At least this time they’re the ones with the amazing goalie, so there’s the hope, I suppose.
I have practically no hope for my team. We always seem to choke in the conference finals or SC final. I would love for them to win it for the King though…we can’t seem to hold a lead, all season. :((
