OMG, we have so much in common. Apart from the HP obsession I mean, our favourite characters are same too! Yeah, I think to keep the ending realistic and not make it seem like some idealistic happy ending she killed off those characters. I think she considered it necessary if she wanted to keep Harry alive and make it acceptable to the range to ages that reads the book. I liked McGonagall too.
Oh and I absolutely loved Umbridge as an antagonist. She was the life of the 5th part. And the person who acts her out in the movie series does it very well too.

And to think I’ve been trying my level best to keep this hidden. Where did I mess up?

I know, in a way I’m glad she kind of compensated for not killing Harry by killing off dozens of other characters and keeping it real. All the other characters who died like Moody, Fred, Hedwig (sob ) elicited the same kind of response from the readers had Harry himself died. I was just taking out my grief, that’s all.
DUDE how did I forget about Umbridge?! She’s the best antagonist BY FAR (Voldy doesn’t even go there). She was what made the 5th book such a great book to read, and it was like the perfect transition point between school and the dark world outside-in the 6th and 7th most of the action is outside Hogwarts anyway. I loved Dumbledore’s Army and the Room of Requirement and the OWLs and the battle in the Department of Mysteries-it was the best. Except when Sirius died. But still the best.
Honestly, Potter Studies should be a legit subject. We study classics don’t we?

Why do you think I’m applying to Wesleyan?
It is solely because of their program which offers a subject where one gets to study Harry Potter. This caught my attention. I thought only places like Brown offer crazy courses like that. I forget the intricacies, but I do remember myself telling the Associate Dean that this is one of the reasons I decided to apply there. I did tell her that, believe it or not.

I think all the adcoms are going to hit upon the truth I had kept so well hidden before your unveiling it in public.

:O
Guess I should start filling out Wesleyan’s application form too.
Brown…I am so tempted to apply. So tempted. But the guy from my grade applying there is like the resident genius. No chance I’d be taken over him, and there’s no way an Ivy will accept 2 people (unless they’re both exceptionally, fabulously, mind boggling-ly brilliant) from a small school like mine.
I guess there’s always transfers?
And hey Pixie, if you end up going there you might catch a glimpse of Emma Watson. Score :D

My favourite subject among the courses offered at Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry is DADA. After a careful perusal of the list of courses on their website, I have come to the conclusion that I am very well suited for this course and your school. I plan to go on to become an Auror. I realize that it is a very tough path that I have chosen, but I enjoy challenges and by my sheer will and determination I am sure that I shall make it.

Oh lord, I have already lived in the world unknown to Muggles. When I was small(read 10-14), I used to spend my time thinking up the excuses my mom would have to feed everyone with should I get a call from Hogwarts. Definitely not that something something School for Criminal boys that Dursley said.
I also used to think that my admission letter would be carried by pigeons. I thought JKR had to tweak something in order to not be put on the black list of the magical world. Also, the fact that there are a lot of pigeons outside my house helped tip the decision in their favour. Never really seen many owls around here.

PS- I quite admire Emma Watson as a person. She has been able to balance her acting career and studies commendably. But then all her A’s on her GCE A-levels were in easy subjects so idk.

Pixie, you never fail to crack me up.
The pigeons did it for me.

I think you should apply to Brown if you like it so much. It’s only one more application! I’m sending a few applications just for the heck of it too; I don’t want to go “what if” later.

^^Arun- You know what the sad part is? That is all true.

Don’t you know I plan to do bed and breakfast with Emma? She is going to be my mentor. And my ticket to the movies.
I have it all planned out.

I wouldn’t want to meet Watson.

What if she thinks I am a dark wizard and uses ‘Petrificus totalus’ on me. I wouldn’t want to face it without a wand.

I don’t mind getting petrified now.

After all Everton 1-2 Arsenal (yay)

and chelski is two goals down to Sunderland (brilliant)

Oh and when I passed the age of eleven, I thought it was because JKR had tweaked that too. So when twelve came around, I thought “It’s probably going to be the thirteenth”. And when my last to last birthday came around, I still thought the same thing.
I also remember very clearly that all this thinking was always in the drawing room on the sofa. Must be the sofa.
Last birthday I was flirting with All Delhi Test Series in IIT land so no thoughts of HP then. What a break from tradition.

Your randomness is delightful. I totally sympathize with everything you said.
You should probs apply to Middlebury too to complete the Harry Potter Collegiate Trio.

“

-Doesn’t matter. You’re not compared to the other applicants in your school but rather you’re looked at in context of your school (how you fared amongst your classmates (your hs pprofile plays a role in this)- so did you take the most challenging courses offered? did you take advantage of your school’s opportunities? etc.)

Apply! If you think you have a shot, go for it. Don’t be intimidated by your classmates. I most likely will be applying to the same schools that the top 10 % of my grade is applying to, and frankly, I don’t care. I’d like to think I’m a lot smarter than them and took way more advantage of my school’s resources.

2007 or 8- 3 girls got accepted into Harvard in a class of about 50.
One year, we didn’t have any Harvard acceptees. (I think)
2009- 1/2 got in
2010- I know 1 got in, but Idk how many applied. But that year, the valedictorian applied to Brown and got in, and so did this girl who had a 3.33 GPA. Valedictorian and 3.33 GPA BOTH GOT IN. Seems unlikely, but it happened.

Every grade has like about 50ish students.

Arunemo, apply wherever you want if the application fees aren’t a burden for you.
Shoot for the moon, the worst that can happen is that you’ll miss, but maybe you could snag a star?
;D

Bubbles, here this is how you quote-

[ quote ] Message [ / quote ]

Put it without the spaces and voila! Thought I’d tell you as it makes it easy to differentiate b/w what your message content is and what is quoted. I just spent a coupla seconds reading arun’s post before realizing that it’s hers.

And nice encouraging words of yours there!

Huh? What is that? Another Midd thing? Midd is sounding better and betterer. :)

Application fees aren’t a burden for me! I’m getting fee waivers, yay!

Dunkin’ Donuts?

Thanks! ;)
