Ooh Philosophy is a very cool subject. I do IB Philosophy here. Ignore the ignoramuses who say Philosophy has no use and will take you nowhere in life. It helps you argue your point without falling into the usual fallacies people make, teaches you about the intricacies of ideologies that Governments around the World follow, and compels you to question things you normally take for granted. I speak out of experience. So you’re not going wrong choosing it as one of your potential majors/minors :)

I’ve applied for comp science anyway since I am going to do that only.

I’m gonna minor in something like business, international relations, psych, history… Let’s see which subject truly interests me! :P

IMHO, Philosophy and TOK are the best parts of IB education. Our IB coordinator teaches Philosophy and he is the best.

The annual college admission freak fest has begun.

SCEA Pledge threads are the best.

Pledge threads? What are those?

Check out the Yale/ stanford/ Chicago/ MIT forums. Tippu’s probably talking about those. The Yale Pledge thread isn’t seeing any activity though. Seeing it’s Tippu, he’s probably talking about the Chicago pledge thread.

Tippu, I didn’t know you did IB! AND IB philosophy! You have just become 200% cooler in my eyes
Quite true, Philosophy can be interesting but it depends a LOT on the teacher…if the teacher is boring and too objective, then Philosophy can easily become the worst subject ever. Thankfully, my teacher is by far the best and most popular teacher in school. He’s ridiculously funny and he really knows his stuff. The kids love him.
What are pledge threads actually?

I want to study cognitive psychology. Maybe a minor. P

VM remember when we were comparing our situation on FB and realized how similar we were? -_-

Indian folk dance drama at its best:

I love watching hasta mudras. They are so expressive.

Ani, yes I do. But now I feel our situations aren’t very similar after all. You’re a way more qualified applicant!

Oh, and don’t refer to me as VM. People might just get confused ^_^

Aniruddh, do you know someone from your school who recently graduated called Poorva Napate? She took a year off and attends Middlebury. Just noticed she was in your school while I was reading their brochure for Intl students.

I am way more qualified, itsmylife?
Haven’t you seen my 11th grades? They’re gonna break my application even though I did well in my 12th midterms! :'(

Arunemo, I have met her! Poorva Napate, yes! I don’t have her on FB though.

Adcoms are familiar with the 11th-grade-deflation paradigm. So yeah. :)

Top colleges look at 11th marks. It’s more like a make-or-break situation there because they look for consistency.

That might be true, but then there is your class rank to help put things in perspective. :)

itsmylife-I hope they are for Indian applicants, because junior year is incredibly important and a dip in grades is
Oh yay! Thought I’d let you know since she’s semi well known courtesy of Middlebury’s pamphlet :p

Lol can you link me to the Middlebury pamphlet?

Those profiles were on the brochure we received from the Admissions officer. Enjoy :)

What subheading does one put School Prefect under?
I put it under “miscellaneous” but it looks quite forlorn there.
Academic honors? EC’s? Both the titles on the CA don’t quite fit it do they?
