Caltech is not hot. Lmao. Its pretty cold actually!

You guys are all aspiring engineers ?

Count me out luce. English Major FTW! :p

Arunemo, intriguing video! Thanks for sharing it here ![]()
How are your exams going?

Luci- Not me. Atleast not now. And I think not ever (?)

You’re welcome everyone, I’m glad you liked it.
Pixie, I’m nervous for tomorrow, and I haven’t even applied. I think CCs getting to me.

Many results are out already. How did you feel about yesterday and day before and day before that? :pBut I totally get what you mean, I’ve been getting all excited about my friends’ decisions and I know while facing my own I’ll probably be emotionless no matter what it contains. Strange this.
I think I’m… a bit nervous now. Phooey.

Haha no I’m just extra nervous because I’m actually applying to the said university. So when I see the results, I can infer whether my application was pointless, could have a chance if the reviewing AdCom was severely intoxicated, pointless, or pointless.
Aah didn’t mean to make you nervous though. Soz :|

Hey, don’t judge your application on the basis of mine! It wasn’t very well put together and I didn’t present everything in the best light. I even left out quite a major award
It’s not you, it’s been coming on since my friend got into wharton and it finally started feeling real.
So, when do your exams finish? And I’m glad that your ACT went well. Only got a chance to comment now.

They finish the day after. All my hardest exams are over so I’m chilling for a bit. I have my English Oral tomorrow however and I’m freaking out. Majorly :s

Okay. Idk much about IB so I cannot spout some fluff on how well you’re going to do and shouldn’t worry.
But English is your major so you’re bound to be good at it!

I know but this is the hardest part of our grade. We basically walk into a room with our teacher and there are piles of paper face down. You choose a pile and flip it over and there’s a passage, about 50 lines long. You have 20 minutes to write up all the literary features of the passage and prepare your Oral presentation. Then, you have to speak for at least 15 minutes in front of your teacher. Just you, she won’t ask any questions or anything in that time period, so it’s a bit like a 15 minute monologue. Then in the end she may ask you some questions about the passage that you have to answer pretty well.
It’s so nerve wracking, even if this is a practice one.

Oh and I have 12 possible passages I can get since I’m in Higher Level-six from Othello and six from The Great Gatsby :|

^^I think it must be because I’m safe here with CBSE that I find this very interesting.
^The Great Gatsby was the only book I read specifically for SAT essay. I found it okay but I enjoyed reading the various interpretations on the internet. Sadly I didn’t use it in both tests. I seemed to be quite attached to princesses in Philippa Gregory.
Wait the passages are pre defined? As in you have a list out of which any might come?

Yes they are pre-defined. But it’s not as easy as you think as we’re basically left to analyze them completely by ourselves. By analyze, I mean we have to take every line apart. There’s a pretty stringent IB rubric my teachers have to follow to grade us, on the basis of knowledge and interpretation, appreciation of literary features, presentation, language, and a 5th criteria I forgot. For this one we have 12, but for the actual one we have 40 possibilities for HL. All the more passages to drown us with :(

best of luck to you too maxxx!!
how you guys been?
anyone in for a snowball fight?

If there was any snow here. Psh.

Hello brethren.

Best of luck pixie. I got two decisions on the 17th, btw.

Let’s hope we all get into our dream university eh :)

I just finished reading A thousand Splendid suns…god I can’t help but stop thinking about it…Domestic Violence is one of my two favorite subjects to read up on, the other being Multiple Personality Disorder. If anyone hasn’t read it, please read, it is amazing…and if u hav…well wat do u think?

I’ve read it. God it was awful. The subject matter I mean, not the book itself. The book was beautifully written, but the contents were horrifying. I suppose it was because I’d heard about domestic violence in Afghanistan and what not, but the incredible detail made everything seem so much more brutal and raw. I think as a woman you feel so violated while reading it. It’s still a great book though.
Have you read The Kite Runner? It’s really good as well, he’s quite a good writer.

Actually, Arun…the book told you nothing but truth. These things DO happen. I have lived in smaller parts of India, and believe me, while situations have not been the same, I have actually seen stuff like what happened in the book happen, and far more worse than that. The killing, everything…I have seen it. At least there was a happy ending to this book, because the people I saw suffering, the women I saw dying because their husbands were cruel to them for giving birth to a girl, or dowry…I have lost count. Some men do such things for no apparent reason at all. I wanted to fight for these women…but earlier, I wanted to be directly involved, and now, I think I will stand on my feet to do that…

I haven’t read Kite Runner…god I had snuck this book in house from library…my mum is totally against novels. But I intend to as soon as I get time to sneak another one in. Lol XD
