And you know what you don’t even need to prepare for the sat2 for more than a week. Atleast that’s what I spent on both math2 and chem!

yea…i realized i gt too personal later…sorry sorry sorry.

Can sum1 tell me the %cut off for UBC from India for Arts? Please??!!

^Idk. None of us are applying to UBC.

Aniruddh- The American Dream. Reality check: No matter how good an applicant might be, there is always a chance of no acceptance. I have read chilling stories of simply brilliant CCers getting rejected because of international status and aid requirement.
It is such an uncertain thing that I am not very sure of myself either. Thank god Smith is more or less in the bag (yet being international I cannot be fully sure of that. But they literally told me I’m in, so…)

Bdw, she’s a commerce student. Preferred choices for comm. students are Math and Bio (self study) for SAT 2s. Or Lit. in few cases.

A month ago that statement would have scared the hell out of me. ;)

What are you upto PD now that college search is over? Christmas celebrations?
Delhi seems to be the only place that is not very christmas crazy.
XMas for me is Harry Potter books curled up in razai (which is what we call blanket here in hindi) with plateful of goodies from the christian neighbors of mine.

^ I have an audition (9th one) in about 2 hours so I am calming my nerves by posting around CC. :P

Somewhat. My sister was supposed to fly into London but apparently work’s been “crazy” so I won’t be hanging out with REAL (I don’t count cousins as REAL :P) family until after new year’s. I pretty much go to work (at a stupid Starbucks but I gotta save money :(), rehearse/hang out with my friends for our company’s productions, look for auditions and volunteer.

I doubt it is the ONLY place lol. Meh, Christmas isn’t so much fun. You can’t even enter a store here without getting stomped because of the stupid last-minute shoppers.

How have your holidays been so far?

EDIT: Haha, I know what a razai is!
Thora bohat samhaj aata hai mujhe. (I hope that was grammatically correct LOL). Nice. I stopped reading after the Goblet of Fire so I desperately need to catch up!

Oooh, best of luck for that! What is it about?

I always found theatre lot of fun. I did it for a year, but it made me miss two months of classes so I had to leave. You must be having one heck of a time!

Sorry to hear that. But after new year’s isn’t so bad?
My holidays? Ha! If there were any. My hols haven’t officially ‘started’ yet; they start on 1st. But all students in India get prep leave for finals starting Dec. end. I’m sure you’d have guessed ‘how’ they’ve been going till now.

Do you know any Hindi?

It isn’t for theater. It’s for an under-production TV show. The part calls for a perpetually angry Asian kid. Haha, I think I have it down. :)

On some days, yes. Some days are extremely boring and tiresome though.

Wow, that sucks! Haha, I hope you do well in your exams! :)

Yep, and 2 other South Asian languages. What about you?

Good luck for your audition R!
How often does your theater company perform and where usually? Is there a specific genre you guys do?
Christmas is crazyyy right now for shopping. I still have gifts to buy, I know I suck for leaving it at the last minute. But it’s so hectic :S
It’s a great festival though. It’s the one time of the year when every part of Europe is lit up and undead. Christmas fever is infectious-I should know, my dad got a tree for the first time since ever. Not that I’m complaining ![]()
How could you have not read beyond GOF? That is crazy, you haven’t read Order of the Phoenix which is the best one (IMO) and the last book?! Dearie me.
On a separate note, I made sushi right now. It’s deformed, but I’m still very proud. At least I’m not completely incompetent in the kitchen. I still have hope :p

An audition for a TV show? Good luck x 100 :)

Someone’s in love with quoting. :p

Me? In Indian languages I know Hindi and Sanskrit (read, write, speak) and can understand Bengali and Punjabi. My language palette is quite bland. Something I hope to remedy in college. Delhi bdw is English through and through. This city is elitist and obsessed with angrezi.

EDIT: Oh, very good. Yes, that is grammatically correct. ![]()
Dude, you should get onto the later ones. They have a lot more combat.
But you shouldn’t get Arunemo and me started on Harry POTTER!

You mean Delhi is Hinglish through and through ![]()
Ah I miss Delhi. It has its shortcomings, but it was still a great city.

Yes, how could I dare to omit that fact? Most everyone speaks hinglish. It looks quite pretentious to me. Street food and hot weather are two things I shall miss most. Apart from the 10 squirrels outside my house. And the neighbor’s huggable dog.

EDIT: I sound quite obsessed with the animals around me. I’ll miss a lot more stuff to I’m sure.

I want a pet lion. Or a pet giraffe.

I need the next hour to pass by quickly and quoting unnecessarily helps.
I can’t explain why.

'Nemo: Thanks! I am really going to need it!!! :)

In community centres and school auditoriums. Haha, we aren’t so good. Usually comedy exploiting common stereotypes but we also wrote a serious one on race relations last month that turned out pretty well.

LOL I got the person I know least out of my group of friends for secret santa and I have no idea what my cousins wanted either. I hope my choice of gifts wasn’t too bad. :/

@Pixie: No way. I guess they don’t realize how awesome South Asian languages are. Anyways, how are the accents? :P

Haha, that would be the coolest thing ever.

I wished you good luck too you know. Etiquette 101 says you reply with “thank you”. jk:p

Accents are mainly:
Girls: american falsetto.
Guys: american falsetto?
Then you have the ‘delhi accent’ itself. It’s quite accentless basically. Gosh, I’ve never thought about accents as much as I did while writing this.

EDIT: my grandmother would not be very happy with a lion drooling over her pretty kitchen.

Oh cool. You could put it up on Youtube. I think you guys are pretty brave to do something that awesome all on your own. It’s the sort of thing I would love to do. If my parents weren’t so against me doing a gap year -.-
They are, although their use is a bit limited. You can’t really speak most of them outside India, except obvious ones like Punjabi and Tamil. But it’s great when you know tons of languages. My dad’s fluent in about 6+1 (6 are South Asian (including English), and he can communicate in one European). My mom’s fluent in 3+1. I feel inadequate next to them.

We had an exchange student from Bangalore a couple of years ago and his accent was more British than mine. Haha, I guess every region has different accents then.

^He might not have been brought up in there then? I have spent a considerable amount of time in Bengaluru and the accent is pretty much south Indian for everyone there. Even my aunt who is n. indian through and through has a slight s. indian twang after living there for so many years.
Yes, every region does have a different accent. South indians rarely have any american accent. Their accent is prominently different from n. indians. But it is less pretentious there. Something like the west coast- east coast thing in america tippu keeps talking about.
