Haha you’ve never heard of the famous ball dropping tradition of NYC?

And sadly I can’t find it. Well some of the few countries/cities I really want to visit are…

India
England (London <33333333333333333333)
Dubai
Greece
Italy
Belgium
France
Ireland
Egypt
Fiji
Japan
Singapore
New Zealand
Switzerland

and many, many more that aren’t coming to mind right now haha

Tippu! Sorry to hear that ;( I hope your cousin gets better ASAP!

And haha, that is funny.

Oh no. You poor thing! And there you were, going to focus on studies for the next few years. All your plans went up in smoke, Poof! Oh, maybe you’re going to meet the one!!
starts laughing maniacally visualizing TippuSultan’s impending destruction
Sorry sorry, I find that so funny. I couldn’t resist. :p

I sincerely hope so. Otherwise, mom will find one for me from India! (jk)

I have to sign off. Have a good day!

Good night TippuSultan-silly-billy-goo-goo. :p

Umm pix, actually they hav good scholarship programs too, and I intend on working part time there to take out the boarding and living expenses. As far as I know, they also decrease abt CAD $2000 for those who show need upon entrance. I know an Indian student who is applying with me, and I read his post on UBC help forum on FB. My mum has agreed to send me only if I get scholarship anyway. The UBC fees is abt 1.4mil, and mum can pay 1.1mil, and avg hourly earning fr International students is abt CAD$8/hr. Pooling our resources together, I think we might pull it off.

Heh, thnx Midnight. I really hope that after all this work, I get decent marks in maths.

I didnt make any resolutions, was too busy dodging my uncle. His one and only hobby is to pinch my cheeks so hard that it hurt. Mere gaal ko kheeck k rubber bana diya :(

^It was actually, me, Bubbles, posting. Haha.
Ahhh good luck!! Why don’t you consider the CUNY’s here? There a lot, a lot cheaper. And still offer a fantabulous education. Are you planning to do grad studies here as well?

Just saying…
My friend’s friend went to CUNY Hunter and is now @ Cornell Med.
And my friend’s cousin went to CUNY Queens and made it to Emory Med!

Also, a bunch of people who messed up in high school end up going to these CUNY’s and then usually transfer to NYU or school of similar caliber after his or her first year.

It is never too late to redeem yourself.

Btw, OMG - I understand what you’re trying to say!! “He has made my cheeks into rubber.” Right?

^Beautiful video. Very expressive!

You like Natya more Tippu? Most audience like Nritta only which is why public performances are more of Nritta.
I like Nritya the most. Varnam is my favorite.
Actually all items depicting Shiva are my favorites. They tend to be more complex and fast, at the same time incorporating abhinaya.

Oh, bdw, U Chicago essay I submitted is Find X. Weird huh? I couldn’t think of a question striking enough and most of what came up in my mind was something very similar to this prompt. Added a few lines here and there and it became find x. Which prompt did you use Tippu, Nemo?
I did so want to dissolve.

I’m so happy that the app crap is finally over. One more tension lifted off our heads :-D

And there’s no point going to the states if you end up going to a CUNY lol.

Oh and I didn’t mean to pick on bubbles, I was genuinely asking what she did for NYE re =|

^^^^ Interesting.

I like watching Nritya as well. It amazes me how dancers can hold their complex pose still for several seconds after a long rythmic sequence.

We don’t get to watch good performances here. Mostly local girls doing their arangetrams. They are ok but most of them do it for their parents and they don’t seem to enjoy it. Once in a while we get to watch performances by artists visiting from India.

I have seen Shiva-Thandava. I enjoy those depicting Krishna as well. Mainly because popular Krishna songs are in Kannada (Purandara Dasa’s compositions).

When do we get to watch yours? Don’t forget. You promised us.

I made up my own prompt for uchicago. Couldn’t make up my mind about what to write for find X.

Darn, I just typed a whole lot of stuff and now it’s all gone. Oh well, let’s start again.

My guru seems to have a preference to dances depicting Shiva too. Most of her performance videos that we students get to see are items depicting Shiva (you won’t find them o/l though, pvt collection). (But we only learn two. I love them, they give me the thrill). We have two on Krishna too bdw.
You won’t get to see it.
The past two months were so busy that I didn’t get one filmed. All this application stuff so near to pre boards in Jan (and pre pre boards in dec.) made me try squeeze in CBSE in free time. While my mom did get a suitable photographer, I felt that additional stress of planning would be too much (because I had big romantic ideas doing one in greenery [lodhi gardens in fact!] , one in some monument, yada yada). I still plan to get one filmed though, maybe in summer when I’m relatively free, so you may see it then.

The only item depicting romance I do happily is Varnam. Otherwise the story line and I just don’t click. It’s nice to watch, but I could not bring myself to act like that for long. Thankfully, varnam is the only dance mainly depicting romance in the items we learn. (of course romance is a part of almost each item but it is not the central theme)

It just struck me. It’s freakin’ 2011!! Holy sheet. It’s a new year!
And waiting period officially starts now!

pixie, the song in that video clip was sung by the dancer. I came across that link when I was watching a Tamil TV program called Isai Payanam earlier today. It is a wonderful program targeted for people like me who have no training in Indian classical music.

Here is an example: [Isai Payanam AR Rehman Special Part 3/5](http://www.youtube.com/user/isaipayanam#p/search/5/a_CA7hRuIFM). Most clips in this set are very good.

I really like the way the commentator describes the raga and gives some examples of its use in film music. Unfortunately, my Tamil is worse than Hindi
but I think I understand enough to gain some insight.

Yes I noticed that mentioned in the comments in another video of hers. It was a very nice voice. Made me want to close my eyes and just listen.

Okay, sorry but I didn’t understand that video at all? Ha, your Tamil has got to be better than mine for sure. My Tamil is worse than my Kannada and my Kannada vocab consists of two words. Not worthy of saying “my tamil” lol. jumps up and down like an excited student(think Hermione, 6)
I did recognize a few of the songs she sang by the tune though!

You are funny.

Ok, I promise I won’t disturb you until your board exams are over. Our school reopens on Monday and I have a ton of hw to finish.

Bye.
