I’m not applying to UChicago btw. I have half my Find X essay left, and I haven’t even started my Why Chicago one. I thought I’d do it tonight, but my first day back was effing mental. Four new deadlines on the first day. And loads more to come. I have to concentrate on my school work. I think it was a bit stupid of me to consider applying so late anyway, and my Why Chicago essay was bound to fail. So yea.

Our class is collectively doing Plato’s Republic. It’s a good text, but there are so many points where Plato simply contradicts himself. I would’ve liked to do the Gita instead, or one of the Chinese philosophers.
Also, what are you doing your TOK Essay on?
My Philosophy teacher is hands down the best teacher in the school. He’s liked and respected by every students and parents alike. I think most philosophy teachers are; you have to have a zeal and enthusiasm about the subject to get other people to respect it. He’s made me appreciate philosophy so much. I’m really glad he wrote one of my LORs.
That’s awesome! You have to admit, they’re better than a lot of bands so it can’t be all that bad I like Viva La Vida, but my personal favorites are Lost! and Life in Technicolor ii. It’s like an eargasm every time.

I wish my school had a Philosophy course. =/

Oh well, there’s always college. Although I’m a bit afraid. Med schools have certain prereqs - which is not a problem, I can complete those. But aren’t premeds expected to take the most challenging courseload possible as well?
What’s considered challenging? I know they don’t have any labels like “AP” or “honors” to set them apart.

I’ve really always wanted to take a creative writing class or philosophy class - but if I don’t do that well, wouldn’t it hurt me?

I want to learn things I’ve never learned before! But damn med schools.

I’d rather stick to math/sci courses where it is objective and I can still do well. And wouldn’t MEDICAL schools prefer this?

Gosh I’m a junior in hs worrying about medical school.

^Haha, yes. But it’s so confusing. Idk what I’m gunna do about their prereqs which I could possibly skip due to Math/Sci/English APs taken in high school, but apparently they still like to see them ANYWAY…

So you DON’T need to do AP Bio/AP Chem/AP Calc or such to do Pre-med?
Pardon my ignorance, it’s just that I haven’t done any research whatsoever into Med Schools in the US, and the only things I do know about Med schools are from my friends’ applications to UK Unis, where they basically don’t even look at your application if you don’t have Bio, Chem, and Math HL.

Above statement made me think about a prayer we were taught:

* Grant me the…
Serenity to accept things we cannot change,
Courage to change the things we can, and the
Wisdom to know the difference
Patience for the things that take time
Appreciation for all that we have, and
Tolerance for those with different struggles
Freedom to live beyond the limitations of our past ways, the
Ability to feel your love for us and our love for each other and the
Strength to get up and try again even when we feel it is hopeless.*

Isn’t this beautiful? I wish I can remember this every time I feel sad/angry/jealous/hatred :)

^That is a beautiful and inspirational prayer Tippu, thank you for sharing. The first three lines are particularly pertinent to me. I should probably tack it on my wall so I can remind myself of it when I have another panic attack.

Hello every1! Im not supposed to b here lol. Anyway, nemo, what can i say.
Nemo, I am disappointed that you didn’t go through the app but I am sure you will end in an equally good or better place. You still have time. Do it.

Haha, for my religion class, everyday, one person has to present a prayer to the class.

Funny enough, I used the serenity prayer last time I presented! :)

It is a lovely poem.

It is very important to remember those things. But I feel like I would have disappointed my parents SOOOOOOOOOOOO much by not getting medical school.

I’m glad both my parents and I have the same goals for myself. Haha.

I’m glad I have a profound interest in medicine & health care. One cannot become a doctor if they lack a passion for science/helping people.

Good lord, the thought of not getting into any medical school makes me cringe.

Tippu-Honestly, I wish I could. I got an email from Chicago today about some people who asked if they can submit their supplement later, and they said you can send it in later this week. They make it so hard to decide!! Thing is, I’d rather not apply than send in a shoddily written application. What would you advise if you looked over my schedule for the week-
Today: Finish EE. Working on it the whole day.
Wednesday-Sunday: Draft and write TOK Essay on Science, due Monday.
Wednesday-Friday: Draft an outline for whatever topic you come up with for Philosophy Internal Assessment, due this week.
Thursday: Math IA due.
Friday: Chemistry IA due.
Monday: CAS Report.

Barring the EE & TOK Essay, I’m almost done with the others since I worked on them over break. I’m pretty sure I’ll do my Philo IA on what I mentioned above, so that’s sorted as well. My EE will be finished today, so that leaves TOK, CAS, and bits of Chem+Math. What do you (and Pix) say?
Pix, haha thank you for clarifying, I was wondering why you suddenly started writing like a freak (No offence to anyone who actually writes like this, it’s a tad annoying for me, that’s all).

Question everyone-What exactly is the difference between the CSS and ISFAA? I’ve started filling out the ISFAA, and some of my schools require the CSS instead. I do know that the ISFAA is free and paper-based and the CSS is paid and online, but is there any other difference? (I haven’t started the CSS yet).
