Tippu, you’ll be pleased to know that I just submitted my Common App to UChicago. I sent them an email asking them to confirm whether it’s ok if I submit it late, and they said it’s fine as long as it’s in this week. This whole dialogue makes me sound like the most fickle person ever, even though I normally am not on such important decisions.
CA down, 3 supplemental essays to go!

I was going to apply to UoC till I realized that its 55k per year and doesn’t offer engg and has a blah CS program so my parents won’t send me there even if I get in haha.

aniruddhc, fyi, CS program here is very good.

arunemo, you’ll really like it here. All IB students I know did really well in the first quarter.

^Oh hey stranger.

How’s UoC?

Edit: It’s bubbles, by the way.

Hello bubbles! How are you? It has been great so far - no complaints. Qtr system goes fast and keeps us very busy.

Haha. Good to hear! I’m glad you’re having a good time. It must be very cold though, no? Haha is it a shock coming from WA?

Ahhh what classes have you taken this quarter? I didn’t know UoC runs on the qtr system.
Kk that is off my list now.

Btw, I know you’re from WA - that is so cool! I have friends in Everett and Mt. Vernon.

I just got back from Seattle on Sunday. Yeah, Seattle is generally much warmer but here in Chicago we had a very mild Fall. My dorm is very close to everything and so, I don’t have to walk much out in the cold. Mt. Vernon? We used to go there every spring to look at tulip fields and it is like a mini Holland.

Haha you’ve started school already! Wow! I thought most college kids don’t go back for at least another week.

Haha, that’s nice. Chicago is amazing. Too bad I won’t be going there!

Seattle’s also very nice. I just realized UW has a first rate medical school.

Lol and that’s cool! My friend doesn’t like it there though. “I’m dying to get out of this hellhole,” apparently.

Maxxwell, are you South Asian as well or just very interested in us like Tippu et al?
I do like UChicago a lot, that’s why I’m sending in an application this late even with 100 other things going on. I’m glad IB students do pretty well; most of the people in my school who did the Full IB and went to the States said the first year is a piece of cake compared to their ordeal.
Can’t beat the original though ;)

^He’s Indian but lives and I think grew up in the States.

[Upcoming NewSouth ‘Huck Finn’ Eliminates the ‘N’ Word](<a href="Upcoming NewSouth 'Huck Finn' Eliminates the 'N' Word)

Look at this guys - a publishing firm is going to release an edition of Huck Finn that replaces the word “n-----” with “slave.”

Interesting, huh?

^Interesting indeed. I can see why he wants to release the new version, and his motivations seem quite honorable. Personally though, I’m against it. I think the novel’s integrity is jeopardized by changing it, especially since the word’s repeated so many times. I’m aware that it’s an incredibly offensive word; however, I think people should remember to take the word within the context-it’s literature, its fiction, it was written in the 1880s. The book should be analyzed for what it is in a fair manner; no one’s trying to impose the ideals or promote the use of the word. I think the sanitized novel can be used for younger audiences, but beyond a certain age (IMO High School), I don’t see the harm in reading the unabridged version provided that it’s taught properly within the context and purely as a work of art.
We had a play in English which used the N-word, and our teacher didn’t censor it or such (it was a bit awkward for the guy reading the dialogue though). It just made us understand the circumstances and context of the play better. Heck, we’re doing Equus later this year, which is borderline profane given that my school’s Catholic.

i wish i had something to say

hello rocker! Why have you been so silent about your school experience? We want to hear. Don’t forget, you are the father of this thread. :p

'Nemo - I concur. I also find it interesting how the author is choosing to replace the n-word with “slave” as if they were synonymous.

I loved UBC…its top on my list.

And I might have scored 90% in 10th boards, but I dun expect that much in 12th. I made biggest mistake of my life when I took commerce, and my school didnt let me change streams…I wanted Humanities so bad

"There were 100 sheep in a farm, one found a way to escape. How many were left? "

Midnight( bubbles) I suppose answer is none…In hindi, there is an idiom which compares following blindly behind sum1 to ‘bhed chaal’ (means the way sheep walk)

I am told SUNY is good for econ, and CUNY is good too. I am focused on Economics, and Financial aid. My sis is going to Delhi Public School/ AFS Delhi/ Omega School, chennai. Mum wants her in hostel, which is gonna suck a lot out of her. But it is needed, my sister is much more of a snob, and this is me speaking. She needs a better environment to open up, and my school is not the place for her.

In any case, if CUNY is low, then tell me what is a safety for me…I wont aim High reaches, I dun think mum will let me apply where my chances are low. For me, the normal application fees for most college is quite high too. sighs as they say, life is unfair. But on the good side, the stupid house loan is going to end in 4-5 months. We are gonna sell that house. The problem which was there in selling that house would be resolved within 5 months, and that place already has 2-3 potential buyers. The lawyer called this morning, I am sooo happy.

How the hell do u guys use those quotes? O.o
