Haha, yeah you do.

And this is why:

^ Partially true. Partially the dumbest thing I’ve ever read. No offense.

Fudge. Haha, aniruddhc your sister sounds very much like my elder sister. Except she went to Dartmouth after being rejected by four of her top choices. She’s currently a senior associate in a top-3 management consulting firm though and will be going for her (fully paid by the firm) MBA next year. I guess it all works out in the end.

Care to explain?
Our senior class had the biggest fight in ages over a suggestion for a simple collective prank. It’s quite ridiculous, the heights we went to to defend ourselves, some resorting to blatant ad hominem attacks. My class is rather sad. We’re so fragmented. I don’t know how we’ll live with each other during Senior Trip. Do any of you have such disagreeable classmates?
Back to my Philosophy IA. It’s becoming physically impossible for me to sleep before 2 a.m.

I like this strong voice and I fully agree.

@princetondreams, woke up from a bad dream? ;)

Y’all seem like a friendly bunch. This must be a timepass thread - mind if I join?

Hey UnitCircle, welcome to TiT #18. It’s not exactly timepass (Who am I kidding, of course it is), but we do occasionally discuss important stuff here. Are you an Indian as well?

arunemo, Thank you. Yes, I am an Indian.

Your class fracas sounds horrible.

That’s pretty cool. Do you live in India like some of us, live abroad like others of us, or are you an NRI/PIO or such like yet several others of us?
Ha, it sounds bad because I was a bit ****ed while writing about it. We’ve calmed down now, but for a while it had become very intense. You people should have seen the arguments flying with talks of the ethical ramifications and what not, all over a harmless prank!

Sure. I really don’t think there’s one philosophy for life. Nothing’s pre-planned but it is hard, or very near impossible at least, to change things that have already happened. I really don’t want to say anymore regarding this topic.

LOL yeah, my first room-mate. A total jackass. He talked behind my back all the time and, during a game of rugby, even tried to injure me through an uncalled for tackle. I was even in a hospital for a day because of that. Apart from that, there were a few kids I didn’t particularly get along with but I guess that’s it. I am pretty sociable so I don’t really get into arguments that often.

What made you think that? :/

CC doesn’t censor ‘jackass’. Interesting.

^Just genuinely curious about why you found it stupid, that’s all. I didn’t mean to come off as offensive, sorry if I did. Everyone’s entitled to their own views, and everyone’s been shaped by their experiences in life. Personally, a lot of things that have changed me are things I’ve had no control over, so I lean more on the ‘beyond-our-control’ side.

That sucks! What a ******. Thankfully no one in my school(s) is so mean. Don’t get me wrong, all of us are really sociable. It’s just that someone made this event called Senior Skip where all the seniors would skip school for a day without letting anyone know. Most people said yes, some said no. Then one person who said they weren’t doing it wrote why they thought it was a bad idea and in the process called most of us ‘spoilt rich kids’, thereafter which all hell broke loose.

I am an Indian parent trying to learn a little bit about college admissions. You all seem to have very impressive backgrounds and I am proud of you. New here, just stopped by to say hi.

ciao

Thank god, it wasn’t that bad!

Wish you good luck for your exams.

What’s with the tags for this thread?

Anyway, I thought I’d might as well tell you’ll the story.
My sister was an okay-ish student at college… After graduation she had an 8 month gap till master’s so my masi hooked her up with a 6 month internship in Detroit which somehow didn’t work out because they found out that masi and my sister are related and they had a company policy against it. Anyway, my mom got my sister this amazing internship with one of India’s biggest steel companies and she did this research project on color-coated steel. The CEO wrote this awesome recommendation for her in which he stated that they setup a $2Million (lol) steel factory based on her project.
My sister required financial aid at the time and she was pretty much set on going to Syracuse University since, well, she wasn’t THAT great a student (just average) and she needed the aid.
She applied to Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, Penn and Northwestern “just for the heck of it”. I obviously didn’t know much about universities at the time but I told her to apply to 4 top universities, because you never know, right.

Decision time:
UIUC: Accepted. Sister: WT F WOW!!!
Northeastern: REJECTED! Sister: Meh.
Syracuse, UIC, a few more: Accepted
Most of her “match” universities: Rejected
Then came the biggies:
Cornell: Accepted
CMU: Accepted
Penn: Accepted
Northwestern: Accepted

Fate?
Maybe yes, since she met her husband at the college she went to and they’re now happily married.

:)

I believe that she got into the awesome ones mainly because of her internships and ECs.
It’s kinda unbelievable how she got rejected by most of her ‘matches’ and accepted by ALL her reaches!
This is also a good example of the randomness of the admissions process! You never know when you can get lucky.

Change that to 6:30am for me. I sleep in the day!

Bubbles, yes, you’re naive.

And yes, I believe that destiny CAN be changed, provided you’re determined enough.

UnitCircle, you are my new adopted Daddy! (I don’t think anyone except maybe UnitCircle will understand why I said this though)

Yes you are. But bubbles, I want you to know that I see a marked change (maturity) in your posts from Soph year to Junior year. You seem to have a much wiser and more thoughtful outlook now, and I am fully sure that by the time Graduation rolls by, you should be in a good position. It has been great watching you change right here on CC! You learn from your mistakes (although I dunno how true that holds in your love life;)) and that is what matters. I’m sure that your little brother and sister will hardly recognize their elder sister by 2012! Keep it up! Hug

Everyone tends to be dumb sometimes. You of all the people PD, should agree right?

No problemo aniruddh. Most questions seemed to pertain clothing, and I hand out outfit tips free (and unasked) anyway, haha! :D

Thank you! How did you know that I don’t have a daughter and always wanted one?

Such is the power of this father daughter connection most dear padre.
You can be my Daddy for life. :D

Aww so sweet!

sheds tears

Absolutely.

I hope so. How would I know without any prior experience?

aniruddh c, sorry, I am not looking to be adopted by a boy. I have enough already. :p

Please tell me to get out if you are uncomfortable with my presence here.
