To all 1500+ scorers on the SAT 1

What mood were you guys in? Angry, happy???
how did you study for the verbal section??

You mean mood when taking the test? or when getting the scores?
I was pretty happy with how I did…I don’t remember any anger.
As far as the verbal section, I didn’t really study for it.

My mood was fine at first, but definately considered cancelling after the test because of the last verbal section. Didn’t end up doing it because it was the last time I could take it and it ended up being fine.

A mixture of anxiety, determination, focus, and nausea.

I was in a good kind of mood. I like taking standardized tests. They’re like games, kinda. I was amused for a while because my friend got a tongue-lashing from the old lady proctor for going ahead in the personal info section before we started.

Verbal…I just did some practice tests, made a few flashcards for words I came across and didn’t know.

Mood? I was chilled, was trying to check out that girl who was 2 seats ahead of me and 1 seat to the right.

I didn’t study for the SAT.

Good mood, actually. EVERY one of my testing experiences had been bad except for that one. Nice temperature, the proctor was nice and looked like Debra from Everybody Loves Raymond, and before the test there was a funny little incident with cellphones (the proctor had to collect the cellphones and put them on a table, so EVERYONE started reaching in their pockets and passing down phones across the room. They made a big pile on the table.) And since Halloween was the week before, my pockets were loaded with candy to eat between sections. Good mood.

Bored…the first time I took it was just tedious and I didn’t try too hard because I knew I could take it again later. I was lucky to get my 1550 on my first real try.

All of the studying I did for PSAT (i.e. taking 3ish practice tests) prepped me enough for the real SAT 3 months later.

first time: meh (1510)
second time: freakishly nervous (1510)
third time: relaxed (1570)

i was too preoccupied to have emotions.

I was very focused and serious.

Flashcards for verbal!

Completely uncaring since it was my second time. I hadn’t studied since the last time so I wasn’t counting on a better score. I figured, eh, maybe I’ll get lucky. And apparently I did because I improved more than 100 points. But I think it was the being relaxed part that helped.

Also, I couldn’t see the clock from my seat. That helped too because I wasn’t frantically checking how much time I had left every two seconds, lol.

I took it once in tenth grade and didn’t try at all, I was just kind of taking it to see what it was like. That was a huge mistake and ended in a 1360. I took it in November this year, which was about a year later, and didn’t study but concentrated when I was taking it. I got a 1540. I didn’t study for the verbal any and ended up with a 790, one question away from an 800!

I studied vocabulary for my 2nd time in verbal, and my score actually went down. 3rd time I didn’t, and I made a huge improvement. Having a large vocabulary is fine, but being able to eliminate ‘strange’ answers and ‘guess’ what a word means are, in my opinion, more crucial in approaching 800. I neglected that when I studied vocabulary.

Hah I’m Crashing The Party For All The <1500s. 1470 Baby!!! Representing Mediocrity!

i think it would be the >1500s, not <

Relaxed and focused. I had taken the practice test in the booklet explaining the test under the same timing rules as the real test, and I knew I would do fine.

Yay for scoring below 1500.
1460 here… As somebody also said, I took it like a game. Pretty much messed around and saw what questions they had for me.

Yes with my 1500 score I bairly fir into this thread.

I was much more relaxed the 2nd time. I had gotten a 33 act so I really was not to worried about the SAT.

1420 here baby- heh, it’s funny to say I’m the lowest one here. I took it relaxed, I think standardized tests are fun too, I guess I’ll concur with the game attitude, lol. First tiem I was relxed too- 1330, I was hoping that my verbal wouldn’t go down the second time I took it and that math would be close to 800…turns out verbal went up 90 points and math stayed the same, lol.

KUDOS to all you 1500ers!
