To anyone who has taken microecon w/ Elzinga

Why exactly is his novel, Fatal Equilibrium, required for the course?

My son is going to be a first year. Is there a way for him to determine which books are required for his courses prior to the first day of class?

CRL123, use [Search by Course | Buy Textbooks | The UVA Bookstore - Owned and Operated by the University of Virginia](Shop Course Materials | The UVA Bookstores)

Fatal Equilibrium uses a bunch of economic principles, so if you have trouble with econ, the book can help give you a different (more interesting) perspective that helps you understand it. Elzinga donates all the proceeds from the book to a scholarship fund, so it’s not like he’s just making you buy his books so he gets money.

You could always borrow the book from a friend in the class, or get it out of the library. If you’re confident in your econ knowledge you don’t really even have to read it – there’ll be one question on an exam and one question on the final about it, but I didn’t ever read the book and still got an A in the class

Thanks Connor 2010
