<p>I’m confused as to the traditions of this country when it comes to post-college gift-giving.</p>
<p>I recently got in to my ED school. And to thank the 2 teachers and 1 counselor who “wrote” my recommendations for me, I decided to buy them all very nice boxes of chocolates before Christmas, but now some people have been telling me that I should buy the T-shirts of the college I got into and give it to them.</p>
<p>Here’s my question:</p>
<li>Why would a teacher want a shirt of the college that “I” got into?</li>
<li>Should I give them a T-shirt?</li>
<li>Is this some special tradition that I’m not aware of?</li>
</ol>
<p>Please tell me what you guys think, anything is appreciated.</p>
<p>My math teacher who writes a lot of recs wears her MIT/Caltech/Harvard shirts that she got from students all the time. Other teachers however do not. It’s safer if you just buy them mugs :)</p>
<p>Around here, people just like to wear college t-shirts. I think it would be cute to give your counselors/teachers shirts with your school’s logo. But I haven’t heard of this being any kind of tradition, though. I think chocolate is a perfectly good gift.</p>
<p>Chocolate is a perfectly fine gift. Teachers will be fine with the fact that you even got them a gift, so your kindness will definitely be appreciated.</p>
<p>I’ve heard of giving shirts, but it certainly doesn’t qualify as a “tradition”. Lots of adults don’t wear t-shirts. Unless you know for a fact that one of your teachers likes t-shirts from the colleges their students have attended, I’d stick with the chocolate. A nice sincere note w/o a gift is also perfectly fine.</p>
