Uhm, didn’t you do researches about those colleges before you applied?
They’re all really good. You can’t choose wrong.
Do you like to get really drunk during parties? If so, DePauw’s your choice. If not, cross it out.
Do you speak French and want to go to Montreal for the weekend? St Lawrence.
Do you hate snow? Cross out St Lawrence.
Do you like nature, hiking, etc? Whitman.
Do you hate rain? Cross out Whitman.
In short, it’s a question of vibe and environment.
read the Niche reviews, Fiske, Princeton Review’s Best Colleges.
My favorites for biology and economics, as well as general academic rigor, would be Denison or Whitman. The environments though are all very different, so, look for fit.
Walla Walla is in eastern Washington state, average precipitation is 20.87 inches a year, as compared with Seattle which gets 37.36 a year. Yes, it snows some, and rains some, but is pretty temperate most of the time students are present. It has a beautiful campus in a charming town. Lots of outdoor activities. Whitman is great for biology and economics, has no engineering, but does offer a 3/2 program with other schools, look for the particulars on the school website.
St Lawrence is near the Canadian border, two hours from Montreal, as MYOS1634 pointed out. Montreal is a beautiful city where French is the official language and visiting is fun. The school is in Canton, NY, a very small town (we visited and much preferred Walla Walla). St Lawrence is a good school and has a very strong career placement center and alumni network, It gets very cold there and the winters are long, but there are many people who love the area and participate in outdoor adventures. Engineering is also a 3/2 program
My son was accepted to both Whitman and St Lawrence, he chose Whitman. He felt the academics were stronger there and he preferred the town atmosphere and weather in Walla Walla, however, we know several people who have attended St. Lawrence and have really loved it.
I don’t know anything about Denison or Depauw.
I don’t think any of those have engineering programs, so if that is your real goal, you need to carefully check their websites.
Going to Montreal on the weekend is not that simple with a student visa. If you end up at St. Lawrence, make sure you follow all of the correct steps with the international students office on campus before you pop up to Montreal, or you could find yourself spending a few extra days on the Canadian side of the border while your paperwork gets sorted out.
Ooo, good point happymomof1.
