Saintfan, that’s one of the reasons this thread got started - I like to wear skirts/dresses in the winter but hate the confining foot feeling of tights. Leggings were a great alternative!

@eyemamom, what do you do in the summertime? Do your legs have a little more color then and that’s why you feel more comfortable??? I find that this time of year - with it a little cooler - I do a couple of things: wear a little longer dress/skirt so there is not so much leg showing. Just a little longer! And wear closed toe and heeled shoes - keeps my feet warmer! I don’t do much of a heel though - an inch or inch and a half is plenty for me. I put a little powder in my shoes each morning and that helps.

I did buy one pair of footless tights that are about crop (not capri - but crop - at the ankle)length. I have one lightweight Athleta type dress that is teal and black and 3/4 sleeve. I can wear this dress with the crop footless tights and patent leather flats (well flats with a very slight heel) and it looks neat, fresh, sporty. I’ve got a lot of compliments!

eyemom, I buy the thinnest Wolford hose in the color “Gobi” that looks like I have no hose on naturally nicely tanned legs.

I would not wear leggings with a skirt/blouse or a business-y dress and heeled pumps, but if the dresses are less formal looking, I would go for leggings and somewhat lower heels (under 2 inches?).

It’s always seemed to me leggings are a great alternative only if you are allowed to wear leggings with socks, which I believe is only allowed if you have boots on so no one knows you are wearing socks. I’m going to do that tonight, but it’s my frustration with leggings, I can’t stand wearing anything but sandals without socks.

^^I’ve got those Smartwool footies and they don’t show with Danskos. However, I’ve had bad luck with the fit. They don’t stay in place and keep slipping. My shoe size varies–either 9.5 or 10, depending on the shoes. I’ve tried the medium footies–which are really too small. While the large fits, it keeps slipping. I’ve seen extra-large Smartwool footies in the store but they’re hard to find on line.

I blame it on all of you. : ) I ordered a “short” rundholz dress, hits just below knee, and matching leggings, and keep putting it on but can’t get out of the house. It feels too naked. So I’m passing it on to a sister or friend and just reading along from here on out. Because I really do like how all of you are wearing your leggings!

483 my usual fall/winter look is leggings with heavy slouchy socks that extend out of lace up ankle boots and a skirt that falls within inches of the socks so the leggings are barely visible.
