To The Ladies: How Do You Wear Your Leggings?

I just wish they had a retail store where I could go in and try them on before buying! I’m not too fond of buying shoes online. I never seem to have any luck.

I like my ballet flats with bit of a heel. [ara Bel 43708 - Black Patent/Taupe Metallic - Free Shipping & Return Shipping - Shoebuy.com](http://www.shoebuy.com/ara-bel-43708/407611/1210991)
I have them in multiple colors.

Yes, MOfWC, it will look fabulous! :D

My “flats” all have up to 1" heel, like these ones:

MomLive,
Thanks for the Soma links. I am going to bookmark that first one and might consider getting it. You said it is just above the knee. In the photo, it looks quite a bit shorter than that on the model but maybe she is tall. I am 5’4". How tall are you, if I may ask? I have a Soma catalogue (no stores in my state), but don’t recall seeing that before. It’s cute and the rayon fabric makes it slightly dressier than the cotton knit ones as a variation.

I just noticed the price! Only $45…that is really a good buy. I have a rayon tunic floral dress of a similar style from Boden that costs a lot more than that.

I like Frye flats - have many varieties and colors. I buy mine at deep discount on 6pm.com.

^^^ I recently got back into the Frye boots…thanks to D asking for a pair for Christmas and me falling in love with them  . I love several on the 6pm site. Are they as comfortable a their boots?

Wow,I never saw that 6pm site before…great discounts on name brand shoes…thanks for sharing!

I love 6pm!!!

I don’t “get leggings”. They might be comfortable for cleaning the house on the weekend, but for that I wear sweatpants. If you are going to wear boots why not wear tights? The tunic top/legging outfit with bare ankles and ballet flats only looks good on ladies under the age of 30 from what I can see. You can’t wear leggings in most offices, although I see admins wearing them and they look silly with business shoes. So I don’t get leggins. The only leggings I own go under my ski pants and they are called long underwear. I do like a slightly shorter skirt or dress (a couple inches above the knee) with tonal tights and pumps in the winter…

We’ll be dead soon enough. Why not live a little while we’re here? ;)

^^I’m not sure wearing leggins qualifies as “living alittle”…I guess I get my thrills in different ways :-)

I think mostly I avoid them because they never ever look as good with tunics or short dresses as the magazine make them…even on young women.

abasket,
I just came across this dress on Athleta…comes in three colored prints…I’m considering it. It would work with tights or leggings. It’s $84. I may try it in “old gold.” The “flint grey” print is nice, in my opinion, but very similar to an Ahtleta dress I got last year.

momofthreeboys, I think leggings are just a trend, like any other fashion trend. You don’t have to wear them if you don’t like them or think they look good. That’s okay. I think very high heels are stupid and don’t get why people wear them. I’m sure no one cares if I buy them or not.

Nice dress Sooz though I don’t know how that waist would look on me - I’m more short waisted and long legged - but I too love the grey!

You know, for me, simples pleasures like nice cute clothing DOES make me feel good. I’m definitely not a suit person, blouse person, trouser person- but I don’t begrudge anyone who does!!

Looking forward to receiving my EB leggings in the next day or two!

One of the big jobs staring me in the face is a closet clean out. I’ve bookmarked some of the items in this thread…I definitely need an update! I’ve worn leggings with long sweaters (few inches above the knee) and boots, and jeggings with softer shorter tops. Since a bout of plantar fasciitis I’ve had to be careful with shoes and the flats I’ve tried do not have enough support…may have to splurge on those Fryes.

For those familiar with Athleta…do the items tend to run true to size? I love those dresses and they look great for travel.

Personally, I don’t feel comfortable with the flowey, tunic big top look. I can’t get over the feeling that I’m wearing maternity clothes.

dietz…I think Athleta runs true to size in my experience. The site has reviews from customers for every item and that can help as people sometimes comment on how the item is running.

I’m embarrassed to say how many clothes I have had in my walk-in closet. I recently, with help from a young person, cleaned it out and removed about 15 trash bags full of clothing. There is still a lot left in it but it is really organized. I could get rid of more but it all fits in well in the space at the moment. It was a major purging after YEARS of not doing it. I feel like I have a new closet.

dietz- Athleta runns pretty true to size. If anything, a little generous. They have an excellent return/exchange policy, too.

Just sayin’… being a Packers fan, this seems like a dress I should have in my closet!!

I tried several items at Athleta just a couple of days ago. I mostly fit a small there and the sleeves were still long enough on the items I tried. I even fit an XS in one of the jackets. I would have needed a medium of one of the other tops, which, the salesperson mentioned when I was looking at it, ran small. With most brands I tend to fit medium tops, occasionally small (medium to get the sleeves long enough and sometimes the shoulders broad enough – I’m tall and thin). Many brands don’t fit me well because they’ll be too wide through the body.

Summary, sizing varied, but it may be the smaller of two sizes you normally wear that will work. Good fit for a slim figure.

Here’s Gwen Stefani (age 43) wearing a dress over leggings.

I find this look appealing and comfortable for casual wear, although the high heels she’s wearing are more appropriate for a “rock star” look. Now the question I have is how old can you be and still pull off this look? I liked some of those Athleta dresses, particularly these two:

As long as you’re as slim as Stefani, I think these would be fine for your 50s and beyond. I have an Athleta store very near, and I’m going to try to make it over there to try these dresses.
