Hello,

I’ve noticed that TOEFL’s essays are much different than those of the SAT.

For example, I have yet to see a TOEFL Essay example that has literature/historical events to support the writer’s idea. Can I still use such examples?

Btw, I have the Princeton Review, and the essay scoring seems ridiculously lenient. Is the Princeton Review way easier than the actual test? or did the SAT make me a bad writer? lol

(P.S. I didn’t get a 12 essay on the SAT I, but I did get a 10)

Well, I wouldn’t say either essays are hard, but the TOEFL essays are a lot easier than the SAT essay. Also, personal examples work better on the TOEFL. I used only personal examples and got 29/30 on the Writing section. I got 11 on the SAT, but I didn’t use any personal examples.
Due to the nature of the prompts in the TOEFL, I don’t think you’ll have to use historical events/literature examples. Most are about opinions on everyday life. My prompt was something about parents spending more time with their kids studying/playing, so it was easier to just use personal examples.
