I just got my TOEFL results and scored a 107 (29,29,26,23), which is pretty good. However, I read about schools requiring a minimum sub-score. So lets say your writing can’t be below 24. Now I am worried, if my sub-score in writing is too low. I am applying to UPenn, UVA, Cornell etc… For the most part, I think 23 is high enough, but I thought I read UPenn doesn’t accept below 24.
P.S. I am a domestic transfer applicant, but I wanted to submit the TOEFL, because I never attended school in the U.S. I am originally from Germany, but have a dual-citizenship. Now I regret submitting my scores (assuming 23 is too low).
I don’t think anyone here is in a position to tell you that the test scores you submit won’t be considered. And you can’t un-send them either.
There are several other components to your application that will reflect your writing skills: your personal statement(s), your SAT or ACT writing score, and your college transcript. (In another thread you said that you are currently attending a community college in California?)
If everything else in your application suggests that you have the writing skills to succeed at the universities you are applying to, I hope that admissions can look beyond the one sub-score. If there’s multiple red flags, then it may actually be in your best interested not to get admitted. You are better off at a slightly less selective university that you can succeed at, than a prestigious one where you constantly struggle to get by.
