Tomorrow is halloween, are you handing out candy?

Just had my first t’n’t’s. The cutest little girls, who’s parents are co-workers.

Just got my first batch. 4 middle school girls in cute, homemade M&M costumes with colorful tutus. They didn’t take the M&Ms though.

The weather by me is unseasonably nice but I am still waiting on our first trick or treaters… I told my husband I should just go out for a walk and hunt them down but that would be too creepy.

We have an elaborate home intercom system that is connected to our doorbell - H changed it this afternoon to a Halloween tune that just goes on forever and is loud and pretty spooky. I just had the cutest 2 year old sailor boy come to the door, and the look on his face…

Ack! I just got hit by 3 gangs of kids! I’m hoping I have enough candy…

One really little dude took about 5 candy bars and ran off squealing.

160 kids in the first hour. At this rate, I’ll run out of candy in the next 30 minutes.

When trick or treating through our neighborhood the first time, we were completely impressed by a family that had removed the screen from their storm door so that when they opened the main door to the house, they could just stick the candy bowl out the frame of the storm door. Makes it so kids don’t have to jostle around when you swing the storm door out onto the porch or walkway. We have done this every year since. We also give out full size candy bars. Was happy to see a packaged assortment that included M&Ms and Skittles this year to add a little variety.

It’s not even 7:30 yet and we’ve already had more kids than probably the last 2 years combined. I am having to slow down on giving the handfuls of candy I give. And we are down to the candy I like (already gave out all the stuff I don’t like). Have mixed feelings about getting down to the good stuff so early!

We’ve only had one kid so far and it’s the little boy from 2 doors down. Turning off our light at 8:00.

It’s a nice night here, too, so definitely not the reason we haven’t had any trick-or-treaters.

I’m so annoyed at my neighbor right now. We live on a dead end street but I’m on the corner of the cross street and she is behind me, right at the dead end. I was texting my neighbor across the street fro me asking if he had many kids b/c it seemed slow to me this year. There is a family down the other end of our neighborhood who has a pre-party every year then usually we get a crowd when the party is over but they hadn’t arrived yet, My other neighbor hadnt seen many kids yet either and he’s on the opposite side of the cross street, not on the dead end. Then he texts me “I just got slammed.” However I only got about 10kids from the large group. Then I noticed my neighbor, the one behind me, was sitting on the corner by my house, with a big bowl of candy. I guess she figured no one would walk to the dead end to her house. So I think the kids are assuming she lives in MY house since she is sitting on the corner by my house. And now I’m getting no one. I’ve had maybe 20-25 at most and have a ton of candy left bc I normally get 75 kids. I’m bummed because I love seeing all the little ones all dressed up.

Similar situation here, @4kids4us. Slowest we’ve ever had it. Some moms at the beginning of our cul de sac set up a table near the beginning of our street at the bottom of the hill and had their cocktails while they passed out candy. Very few kids came up the hill past that table. Just a couple groups of middle school kids. No little ones. I’m pretty bummed about it.

@adigel we’ve been taking the screen out for decades–it’s the yearly signal to us to put up the storm window the next day, and yes, it sure is easier to hand candy out over the door rather than opening it.

We’ve had 40-50 kids so far, mostly little ones. Very cute. I was inspired by this thread and put out some things (fog, lights, rope lights, creepy music CD, etc.). One older kid it was the best house so far! Another family asked, “where is your Stranger Things display”. Can’t please everyone!

My neighborhood had a party until 7:30. I was within for. Phone call so th home. When I s ny little kids go by, I called out o go the cny, omime 3 hole bar. I had two boy tell me I had the best.

Net yer, I’m not opening h Coro boxes and will return

@bookworm Are you drinking Halloween cocktails with my neighbors?

We haven’t had trick or treaters in 20 years. We are currently renting temporarily in town, one block off the main street, and thought it would be fun to hand out candy and see the cute kids. H brought home one bag of candy. Hmmm, sent him back to the store.

We had hordes of them! Granddaughter (age 4) had tons of fun handing out candy after she returned. We ran out of candy and H gave out all my Rice Krispie treats, too. Thankfully we ran out of those about the time most of the kids stopped.

So much fun has been had. Boo on the people who intercepted trick or treaters for some of you! Do people not think?! They could have at least encouraged the kids to go beyond the cocktail ladies and ladies in corner chairs to the your homes - I MEAN @doschicos had movie theater box candy!!!

I’m guess our usual around 150. H lost his bet with me - he thought my mini playdoh would be a bust. Wrong. When given the choice to have a mini can of playdoh or a couple of candy bars I’d say 70% or more took Playdoh. One little girl walked half way down our sidewalk from the front porch, stopped and faced her parents saying “ATTENTION! I JUST SCORED PLAYDOH!”

Favorite costumes includes a really good Hermione.

I had just enough candy! I had one little boy in a pirate costume (about 3) whose grandmother said I should ask him to tell me a joke. I did, and he said, “what’s a pirate’s favorite letter? Rrrrrrrr.” So cute.

OMG. Such spelling mistakes. Please forgive me.

@garland Exactly. Tomorrow the glass goes into the storm door instead of the screen. My favorite was a very well done handmade pigeon costume for a middle school age kid. Wings with handmade felt feathers and felt feathers covering her torso and also a head covering with a beak. Also a very cute pre-schooler with a light up rocket ship.

We had 154 full size bars ready to use and have 17 left so we got 130+ kids (accounting for a few that took more than one). One little boy said “Oooh, theres a lot of good stuff in there” and another older boy was quite disappointed by the absence of Almond Joys. When I told him I’d take his feedback into consideration for next year he started rattling off his ordered list of favorite candy lol.

Blow-pops always seem to be a crowd favorite around here.
