Tomorrow is halloween, are you handing out candy?

We used to give out full-size candy bars. But I probably ate more than my share, so went back to the small stuff.

We used to have one kid who didn’t eat chocolate but I guess she didn’t come this year, so another kid got her Airheads . I’d gotten them specifically for her because I felt so bad last year.
Our crowds came to a screeching halt around 8:15. Just a few stragglers after that.

Coworker brought in her new baby in a skunk costume today. So cute! And a red headed coworker dressed like a Griffindor, so we sang a rousing course of “Weasley Is Our King!”

Ten after 6 here, slight drizzle, first decent sized group just showed up.

We had about 540 trick or treaters. The cutest was a 3 or 4 year old dressed as a fairy who spotted my golden retriever in her tutu and fairy wings and said, “She’s just like me!” and gave her a sweet kiss on the nose.

Normally my dog would hate having something strapped to her back but she’s learned that Halloween means a horde of adoring children greeting her on her doorstep. She now wags her tail when we put a costume on her.

@Sue22 I can’t even imagine what it looks like to have that many trick or treaters. That’s 4 times what we get at our house.

We had very few kids this year, in spite of lovely weather. Hmm- not sure why. Usually, we run out of candy, even if we stock up with 2 large bags. Sadly I think kids are more interested in their Ipads and phones nowadays.

@bookworm
Based on your garbled post, I assumed you had decided to hand out Tequila this year instead of chocolate. And, like the rest of us, you are consuming the leftovers :))

540! Wow, hard to imagine. We got 100, more than usual. Well, my fun size candies were fun. I ate 8. Glad they are gone, I think that’s about 75 grams of sugar. I’m getting a sugar headache now.

@dragonmom if you haven’t opened the bag Costco will take it back. I did that one year we didn’t have anyone come to the house. Now buy the small bags and if no one comes it won’t be too much laying around.

One year when we had so much leftover candy I wound up giving some to people who came and worked on my house like the plumber and some movers. These guys really like that.

Best laugh of the night…

I so wish I lived near other CCERS. PATSMOM, are you listening?

Our trick or treat time totals 2 hours - anyone’s longer or shorter? 6-8pm here.

I would guess that we have between 50 and 70. I don’t count. There were about 4 or 5 giant blow up costumes. The lawyer in my was sure they were going to trip going down our front steps and sue us. It was over by 8:05, thankfully.

We had zero trick or treaters, and I had plans to not open the candy unless someone came by. BUT, my husband opened the bag, and I counted at least 8 things of Milk Duds in the top layer of our trash can, plus he ate a ton of malted milks balls (they weren’t as easy to count). Will I be expected to feel sorry for him when he starts complaining that he doesn’t feel well?

Thanks for the reminder that Costco will take the candy back!
Meanwhile my motion detector camera only recorded four groups actually coming to my dark porch. One group were students of mine (I’m pretty sure they don’t know it’s my house) who were heard planning to remain zombie silent and frozen. I’m so sorry I wasn’t there to fall for their trick!

@bookworm – yes, I’m listening! Is it time for another meetup?

@abasket- the neighborhood has a party down by the pool from 4:30- 6:30, but I’d say we had kids of all ages between 6-8:15. Big crowds around 7-7:30.

H and I gave out 1200…yes, twelve hundred… pieces in under 2 hours at S and DIL’s!!! My parents came over this year and couldn’t believe the sight. Weather was perfect and we all had a blast. Our two little granddaughters loved helping when they returned from their own Trick or Treating. S3 was at our house and gave out about 50 treats.

I’m going to have a lot of leftover candy. Just snacked on some chewy Sweetarts — not bad!

1200!!! Did you give out multiple pieces, or was that the total amount of kids?

I can recommend Hershey’s Mint Cookie Layer Crunch Bars. If you like Thin Mints, you’ll love them.

@NCKris We are loaded with leftover candy! Great weather tonight and someone posted a picture of a crowd of kids on the park side. And why do I open the bags and put the candy in the bright orange Halloween ? bowl? No returns ?
