Too corny?

I am trying to come up with an “ad” for my son for the football program. At his school, the band sells the ads for the football program, and a fair number of the parents of band seniors take out an ad congratulating their child. These ads include pictures of the kids–some parents do baby pictures, some do recent pictures, and some do both. As for captions, I’d say a good 75 percent include some sort of Bible quotation, and the rest usually opt for something like “Congratulations, We’re proud of you.”

My thought is to do something just a little different, and use a picture of him from kindergarten or first grade, with the caption, “Time flies.”

What do you think? Too corny?

No. I like it.

I like it, too. It’s very plain and simple, but very true!

This is just me, but it doesn’t seem all that personal.

Something more like “What a ride!” or something implying a personal involvement would be better.

I suggest asking your son first.

Some kids would be embarrassed by an unconventional ad; others would love it. You don’t want to do anything that would make him uncomfortable.

I love it, especially if you added a “We love you, alreadyson. From amom, adad and asiblings.”

Perfect. I was thinking “Time flies, and so does <son>” but I think that is painting the lily. Yours is better.</son>

I might go for a picture of your son in his first football gear–when was it?–to link it more closely to the program.

I like it too.

Here, parents do ads in the yearbook (most parents do, not all). Can be 1/8 page to full page. S usually dislikes what he would call “corny” (aka lame) stuff. But I did photos from toddler to middle school age with his instrument to hs with same. Quote from The Road Not Taken and the “we’re proud” type sentiment.

He liked it. I ran the photos by him, but not the quote. However, I knew he’d like the poem as it had a personal family meaning. So, I don’t think you need to run it by him, but you could. Some of these kids who usually wouldn’t like that kind of thing actually do see that it’s a tradition, and get into that.

Long way of saying…

I like yours. Just the way you wrote it. Like WashDad said.
