Too Late to Get a "New" Dorm?

Not to sound to prissy, but I stayed in Pierce over admitted students weekend and didn’t like how old the building was. I visited South Campus and, although it was a little out of the way, I did like how clean and new it was.

However, I still haven’t enrolled yet. As I understand it, housing is first-come-first-served. Am I too late to get housing like South Campus?

Hard to say. It all depends on when you submit your housing application, and how many others also requested South Campus.

South and Max (the new dorms) are HUGE compared to the other dorms on campus; I doubt you’ll have an problems with getting into them, especially if they’re your first or second choice.

Wait *** does it matter when we submit our housing application before May 1st?..

Oh dang. Hopefully Rny2 is right.

feuxfollets, afaik submission order before May 1st does matter…maybe I’m wrong?

Um I’m not sure about UChicago but for UPenn it doesn’t matter before May 1st so I just assumed that was universally true… shouldn’t it be that way?..

^^ Lol, Penn =/= Chicago.

South can house 811, while Max fits 712. They are the two largest dorms on campus, and could easily fit the entire freshman class and then some.

AFAIK, the only dorm that actually ‘runs out’ of berths is Snell-Hitchcock.

And yes, it matters when you submit the application; the earlier the higher priority. However, you can change your housing application after submitting it the first time, w/o losing your spot in the queue.

You will have no problem getting in South Campus. There are many, many rooms at South Campus.

I can say with confidence that you will not have a problem getting into South. There should be a high turnover rate, and there are excess rooms to begin with. No worries.

Excellent. Thanks for the responses.

I submitted my housing app like in early April after Ivy decisions. I put Max as my first choice. Am I likely to get it?

Yes. You will most likely get in Max P.

So if that guy is only “most likely” after submitting in early April, I am most likely not getting in Max P if I submit sometime over the next few days?

HonorsCentaur will get in Max P. You may not be able to get in Max P. You will get in South Campus for sure.

Yayy! But what makes you so sure?

There are many athletes in Max P. and Pierce. Is this because UChicago gives preferential treatment to their dorm selection (i.e. to be closer to Ratner)?

It’s more likely the opposite way around–I would say the athletes request max since it is so close to the gym. ;)

I handed my housing application in at the same time as you last year.

Obviously an athlete would naturally select Max or Pierce so as to be closer to the training facilities, but my question is does UChicago give preferential treatment to those competing in athletics so that they can be in Max or Pierce (ex. if only 1 room left and they have to pick between an athlete and normal student- who gets it)?

Also which dorms are usually most requested (kind of generalizing)? I would assume Max and Snell. If one submits the housing application within 1-2 days of May 1, will he/she be MUCH less likely to get into one of those two or is it possible that rooms are still available given the late submition?
