It was funny the first time…

“Quiverfull” is very apt, then.

It’s only a matter of time before there are too many of us for our natural resources to sustain.

That is already happening- we currently are keeping track of unprecedented levels of extinctions.
[Entire Mammal Genus on Brink of Extinction](<a href=“National Geographic”>National Geographic)

[7,000,000,000 People on Earth Crowding Out Imperiled Animals, Plants](7,000,000,000 People on Earth Crowding Out Imperiled Animals, Plants)

Well when those natural resources are all gone and there is no food left, we’ll be seeing a show called “Cookin’ up the Duggars.”

Oh just yummy…

I don’t think we can blame the buddy system. I would imagine that their world was pretty well rocked by the assassination of their father and the consequences of that for their family.

I still think I’d rather be a Duggar kid than a Gosselin kid - they appear happier.

Duggar kids seem a bit “Stepford-ish”, IMO

I feel for kids who are the primary caretakers of their siblings-
It must have been very difficult for the 20yr old to be the one taking her sister to the hospital when she had a seizure since their parents were out of the country this past summer.

Yes, it cuts down on their mall and general texting time and other worthwhile teen pursuits. They always looks so bummed and defeated too. She was well prepared to handle the emergency because rather than spending most time in typical teen pursuits she trained as an emergency responder.

“This is child abuse - especially for the older daughters”

Absurd. Since when is learning responsibility and teaching skills child abuse? Child abuse is buying bigger breasts and skanky clothes for 15 year olds.

Both are child abuse. BOTH are exploitation of children IMO. Since when is it acceptable to force teenagers to be foster mothers simply because their mother feels the need to squirt out a couple dozen kids? I really think it’s negligent to have kids that you seem to have no intention of taking care of- I don’t care if it’s one kid or 20. When you assume that your children are going to take care of your children, that’s abuse.

I’m 20 and I have no problem babysitting for younger kids. Heck, I was a nanny for five kids over the summer. But when it’s expected and forced when I didn’t make the choice to have them? No, that’s not OK.

*“This is child abuse - especially for the older daughters”

Absurd. Since when is learning responsibility and teaching skills child abuse?*

Right…this is NOT child abuse. This has been the way that for many generations, girls were raised…learning to take care of children by taking care of their younger sibings. This is within the range of NORMAL…not abuse.

It is none of our business how many children law-abiding, tax-paying, non-welfare-receiving parents decide to have. Heck, these people are raising kids who will likely be law-abiding, tax-paying, non-welfare-receiving adults…and we need MORE of those…NOT LESS!!!

My grandmother was one of 10 girls.
I found it very interesting that in the days before reliable birth control she & and her sisters found a way to have fewer kids. Four sisters had one child apiece. three had two kids, one had no kids and only two sisters had 3 & four children.

All of their kids were healthy, those women who had more than one child were able to space them far enough apart to be in the best shape possible before the next pregnancy and none of them had complications like being born three months early.

Girls were raised to take care of their siblings, boys get a free ride.

These kids have no real option for college, they have minimal education using weird homeschooling books, and yeah, they seem happy, but they don’t dance, they are doing their parents jobs, they have few choices in theirnown futures, and only real way out is marriage. Ignorance can be bliss I suppose. Ever see their field trip to the creation museum. Now that was eye opening.

Mama dug gar is a breeder, and she seems off to me. I too hope one of those kids does a tell all or branches outnbeyond the compund

Sounds like you’re itching to make it your business how many kids the “welfare receiving” parents have. Care to elaborate?

I wonder if any of the young ladies are *allowed *to register to vote when they turn 18…

Well, your assumption is wrong, so withdraw your claws.

My point is that this family is supporting their kids and they aren’t doing anything illegal. If this family was collecting welfare to support these kids, then I could understand why people would be concerned about more births, burdening society, etc.

And, we may not agree with their religious views (and I don’t), but this is a free country and they can raise their kids in their chosen religion…just like the Amish do. I don’t hear people freaking out about the Amish and some could certainly argue that their ways would seem far more backwards than the Duggars…and certainly could be more restricting to their children.

*Girls were raised to take care of their siblings, boys get a free ride.

*
Not in this family. The boys take care of younger kids as well.

And, I don’t understand why people are upset that the parents expect the older kids to help out and do chores. How is this any different from families who have their children work on the family farm or family business?
.

It doesn’t sound like the daughters are being prevented from having career goals…

*
Jana Duggar is now twenty years old. She and her twin brother, John-David were both born on January 12, 1990. However, they are very different, indeed. Jana is outgoing, while her twin is much more reserved, but very hard-working and focused. In Michelle Duggar’s recent blog entry, she says that** her oldest daughter Jana has expressed an interest in midwifery and music as career choices**. Concerning Jana’s interest in midwifery, Michelle says, “Jana has helped with a doula. She hasn’t worked alongside with an actual midwife yet. She’s assisted with labor and delivery, kind of getting her feet wet to see if she really likes that realm of work.” If Jana were to decide to become a midwife, a minimum of one year of clinical training is required, including at least 1,350 hours under the direction of a supervising midwife. A midwife candidate must also pass the North American Registry of Midwives written exam and skills assessment to become certified. Training is less rigorous to become a doula or childbirth educator. However, according to Michelle Duggar, Jana may choose music over midwifery.

“It’s interesting, she’s doing some music studies, and she’s pursuing some more in-depth harp. There’s good money to be made in harp-playing because it’s not something a lot of people do,” said Mom Michelle of her oldest daughter. All of the Duggar children learn how to play a musical instrument at an early age. Jana Duggar has excelled at the harp. She also gives music lessons to others. “Music is something she likes to do.** I wouldn’t be surprised if she became a music teacher eventually**,” Michelle added.

They may seem to be able to support these kids now but I do wonder about the future "burdening " of society with all these kids. Who will support all the offspring down the line , all the elder care issues, etc. Each of these kids will have their own kids, etc. I think we have enough people out there already with limited resources on the planet. The whole Duggar thing is puzzling and 20 biological kids from any couple seems bound to tax our limited resources.
