Too many ec hours common app? freaking out!

Thanks for the feedback. So when a person has a medical situation, it is not suspicious that they are doing 12 hr a week of sport and another 15 of video stuff online. I also just got into Umass amherst, but NOT into honors college (this may be another sign omg). I also havent mentioned but I never got a duke or yale interview and they both pre screen.

Stop it! My kid got a HUGE and I mean HUGE merit scholarship to University of South Carolina…and did not get accepted to the honors college. It didn’t make sense to us, but it was what it was.

UMass Amherst is a great school. Congratulations on that acceptance. How about celebrating the positives!

A sign of what? If they had truly been suspicious or something, if they had seen your EC hours as a red flag, you would not have been admitted at all. Do you think an AO was like, “There’s no way this is true, none of this adds up…So, OK, what the heck, let them in. But no honors college!”

You are panicking and not thinking clearly about this.

I agree with thumper and worriedmomucb.

I’m saying this gently…maybe take a break from CC (and don’t go on Reddit :grinning:), stop thinking about this and do something to take your mind off college admissions. I know it’s easier said than done, but you can do it.

Good luck with the rest of your decisions.

You have UIUC and UMass.

What are your pending applications.

Were you in a coma?
If you were in a hospital bed, you can still do video editing and YT content.

Worry if you want.
Write AO if you want.
I think you have gotten enough replies and advice to do the “right” thing.

I don’t think this is accurate. From Duke…

“ A personal interview is not required for admission, but it provides an opportunity to learn more about an applicant’s strengths and goals. All interviews are conducted by alumni volunteers. Students who submit their Common Application by the Early Decision deadline (November 1) or the Regular Decision priority interview deadline (December 20) will be contacted by alumni on a first-come, first-served basis. While Duke makes every effort to interview all applicants who submit applications by these deadlines, interviews are not guaranteed”

And from the Yale website:

However, if you don’t get an interview, don’t worry! It isn’t required for the application process, and Yale doesn’t interview all applicants. Your application won’t be disadvantaged if you don’t get an interview.

This is from last year, this year they prescreen

like 10 top 20s, upenn, dartmouth, yale, williams, duke, USC, etc

You do understand these are all reaches for just about every applicant. If you get accepted, you will never know why.

And if you aren’t accepted, you will be never know why.

You have two fine acceptances. Celebrate those and then just wait and see about the others.

yeah but I had a medical situation. my app just doesn’t make too much sense i think

Alumni interviews are an optional component of the Duke application process. Due to the volume of applications to Duke, we regret we are unable to interview all applicants. The Admissions Office will prioritize interviews for students for whom we need additional information. Not being offered an interview does not affect your chances of admission. After students submit their applications, those offered an interview will be matched with alumni volunteers who will contact them via phone or email to arrange a virtual interview. Students may expect the interview to last 30-60 minutes. We do not offer on-campus interviews with admissions officers, nor can students request an interview." from there website

Yes and it specifically says…

They do not prescreen it does not say that.

thanks, lol but its hard. I just know that I spent more time on my video editing buisness during 11th grade but I put the peak number of hours instead of an average in reality. just sad and trying to move on

The Admissions Office will prioritize interviews for students for whom we need additional information. " that means prescreen, read about it on reddit

yeah but I didn’t do as much as I wrote because I was writing peak hours instead of average. just sucks

Keep in mind that Duke’s acceptance rate is around 6%…It is a long shot for even the most qualified candidates. If you don’t get into Duke, it will almost certainly not be because of the hour breakdown of your ECs. It will be because, well, 94% of applicants don’t get in and that includes valedictorians with 4.0 GPAs and 1600 SATs.

No idea what people on reddit are saying…But that’s not what that means.
