Too many ec hours common app? freaking out!

So 35hrs per week of EC’s when I mentioned it was harder to study in additional info section is not too much, when does it cross the line?

If someone on Reddit says that means prescreen…you need to start ignoring that poster.

I am not going to debate you, but you are misinterpreting the meaning of that sentence.

They don’t prescreen and interview students they are more likely to accept. They interview broadly when possible and specifically when they need more info about a candidate which can mean a variety of things.

Not getting an interview is meaningless.

yale uses the same terminology on there website and they have been prescreening for years

And you know this…how? Since Yale is very clear…that not getting an interview will not negatively impact your admission chances.

look, i dont really care about that, yale is yale, just worried about my EC hours in context of my application, and im hoping to get into USC, and hoping that my EC hours will not sway an admin offericer

I WANT TO EMPHASIZE: Now that I think of my hours the first and second EC’s should have been cut significantly and to 40 weeks per year. something like 6 hrs/wk, 40 wks/year and 4 hr/week 40 wk/yr.That would be the most accurate representation.

Your question has been answered repeatedly and consistently. Your responses are turning to debate, which is against ToS.

If you do not get in USC you will never know why, but I’m confident saying it won’t be related to your ECs.

Do you have any other questions?

If I could put a million dollars on the line in Vegas to win even $1,000 - on the basis of Vandy rejected you because of suspicion that you over emebellished this activity, I would.

Vandy accepts in the single digit of applicants. The odds of anyone getting in there are very slim.

You’re taking this waaaaaay too personally - and for no reason.

And you got UIUC Gies - which is not easy. And if you want to study business - can’t do so at Vandy (at the major level).

Focus on the positives - whether you end up there or elsewhere, you’re in a great situation.

Vandy turns down more than 90% of people - and take out athletes, the #s are even lower than reported.

You’re a great candidate of many great candidates.

Working 10 hours vs. 6 in reality is not headscratching and not why you got rejected.

Look toward your future.

And UMass. Two great acceptances!

both safety schools lol with my stats, at least Umass

And so what? The whole reason to have safeties is because other schools are not a guarantee even with your stats. If they were…they would be safety schools.

but i just want to send the best app possible to my top schools and be certain there is nothing stupid I did that messed me up

You have already submitted your applications. What’s done is done. The consensus here is that this will not make a difference. Regardless, there is nothing you can do at this point but wait for the rest of your decisions. As the Broadway musical Rent teaches us, “Forget regret or life is yours to miss.”

You need to forgive yourself for the error, understand that in the grand scheme of things this is not a significantly bad mistake, and move on.

Good luck!

I could technically send an email, but I guess better not

No other questions. Just anxious, and sad that I didn’t realize that I wrote a peak # of hours instead of an average now that I think of it

No one will know or question that you said you did 10 hours instead of six, etc.

So this hasn’t impacted your “best app.” Apps are subjective - meaning different people will interpret the same application differently.

So you truly have no idea how your app was seen.

You really need to stop worrying that you didn’t put your best app forward.

But - if you are this concerned - then let this be a life lesson as you fill out other things in life - to ensure you check, check, and double check to truly ensure they are the application you want to submit.

But again - you’re likely discussing a non issue here.

The reality is - Vandy decided that your overall application didn’t make the cut for them. You have no idea which part or parts helped them to decide this. It may be as simple as - your profile didn’t meet their institutional needs - outside of metrics, etc.

Not sure your end goal in life - but you probably can/will get to the same place from Gies/Isenberg as Vandy.

Good luck.

10 hours instead of 6 for 8 less weeks. But I understand and nothing I can do now. The reality is that Vandy will give me significantly more opportunities than Gies/isenburg, but ill keep looking positive into the future

I agree with everyone here. The AO’s simply don’t have the time to add up all your hours and figure out if it makes sense or not. I know it sucks when you find a mistake in your application. I found several after mine went out, including a pretty big one for my dream school application. It all worked out! I think the reason for your Vandy rejection is not this error, but rather just the crazy selectivity of it. No one has a super good shot there. Good luck to you!!!

non issue -

and if you reversed it, you didn’t list enough, also a non - issue - it’d be hard to believe it had any scintilla of imapact on your decision.

OK - if you can’t be convinced, nothing I can do, but really it’s time for you to move past.
