top 15 most prestigious universities

^Agree

UChicago> Washington U and NU

However UChicago, though it may be the finer institution, is not as popular.

dude no way
Happy students AND top academics?
Washington University in St. Louis > UChicago and NU

Well guess NU got the short end of the stick.

The thread is for the most prestigious universities. Chicago is the most prestigious university in the midwest, bar none.

COMPROMISE!

UChicago > NU > Wash U. Everyone happy = D

NU = Big 10 school near a great city. Pretty sure their students are happier.

Exactly. So Washington University in St. Louis, Cornell, Brown, Duke, Stanford, Harvard, and Columia are on the list.
I’ve never even heard of University of Chicago until one girl from my high school applied there (I went to a top#5 public high school in CA)

I want to put UCLA somewhere on the list. School pride anyone?

I agree with zenith. Prestige is a regional thing. In SoCal and the Bay Area,
Washington University in St. Louis >> University of Chicago.
And few people think of Northwestern as on par.

They are all great schools, nevertheless.

1. Harvard
2. Stanford
3. MIT
4. UPenn
5. Columbia
6. Duke
7. Washington University in St. Louis
8. Cornell/ Brown
9. Dartmouth
10. Johns Hopkins

never heard of UChicago until recently. Hear it’s a great school, though.

Chicago is the most prestigious university in the midwest. It has an international reputation that Washington U can only dream of.

“I agree with zenith. Prestige is a regional thing. In SoCal and the Bay Area,
Washington University in St. Louis >> University of Chicago.
And few people think of Northwestern as on par.”

That’s pretty funny considering most people in the midwest don’t even know where Washington University is.

Using hax0rz’s list:

1**. Harvard
2. Stanford
3. MIT
4. UPenn
5. Columbia
6. Duke
7. Washington University in St. Louis
8. Cornell/ Brown
9. Dartmouth
10. Johns Hopkins**

I’m not sure where you’re getting that idea from, rjkofnovi. From my experience in the Midwest, WashU IS the best school all around and the dream school of many. Also- please stop double-posting
Quantity is not quality!

^^^Where do you live again? Is California in the midwest now?

“I’ve never even heard of University of Chicago until one girl from my high school applied there (I went to a top#5 public high school in CA)”

I think I might know a bit more about the midwest than someone who isn’t from the region.

rjkofnovi,

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

In my opinion, Washington University in St. Louis is way more prestigious (and desirable) than the University of Chicago!

Most people in the Bay Area have never even heard of University of Chicago.

^^^^^Oh sure, they just assume it’s located in Detroit. I guarantee you more people in the bay area think of flagship school in the state of Washington when they hear that name.

dude I’m from the Bay Area… -_-
People will disagree with you, rjofnovi
Get over it.

^^^No kidding, so you’re the exception to the rule. I’m from the midwest. I think I know what people around here think better than you do. I am telling you that WUSTL is not that well known here in the midwest, compared to NU for sure and Chicago a bit less.

Chill out rjkofnovi. I never said that Wash U was better then Uchicago. Since you are clearly someone who attends UChicago (or has attended) or just didn’t get into WashU, I can see why you feel like you have to defend uchic, but it isn’t necessary. UChicago and WashU are both amazing schools, I can’t tell you which one is better. When I posted my last comment it was simply to put WashU back on the table because many times it gets left in the shadows of other universities such as Vandy and NU.

rjkofnovi,
You seem to insult people in the Midwest as not knowing their geography. And you say you are in the Midwest?
-___-
The truth is, different colleges are prestigious for different reasons; prestige also depends on regionality.

I’m lucky to have had both the West Coast (CA) and Midwest experience. And I’m just saying that from where I came from in California, Washington University in St. Louis is considered more prestigious than University of Chicago.

Like Coconut1812 has said, both WashU and UChicago are amazing schools.
But prestige is a broad term. And so it will be defined by various opinions.

Look, once again, the title of this thread was the top most prestigious schools. WUSTL is a great school, but it’s not more prestigious than Chicago or NU, especially in the midwest. I know you didn’t say it was, but others did.

All right, rjkofnovi,

While others here and I will believe that WUSTL is ‘more prestigious’ than UChicago,
you are also entitled to your opinion.
