top 15 most prestigious universities

“While others here and I will believe that WUSTL is ‘more prestigious’ than UChicago,
you are also entitled to your opinion.”

Employers and academics have consistently ranked in their assessments that Northwestern, UChicago (and even Michigan) are more prestigious than WUSTL.

^^^But high schoolers in the bay area know better…

wow hmmm…never really heard of University of Chicago until I came on CC.
All I want to do is go to the top premedical or biological research school and then medical school, and I already know that Washington University in St. Louis >>> University of Chicago for that.

^^^You from the bay area as well? ;-)

Michigan is a great school, but there is no way that Michigan is better the WUSTL. First of all Michigan’s acceptance rate is 50%, 2nd WUSTL has one of the best premed/med schools in the country, not to mention their other highly acclaimed schools including business and even art. Michigan has all these schools as well but WUSTL tops it by far. I don’t really know much about UChicago so there is nothing for me to compare it to. In my opinion (as I mentioned before) they both seem equally great.

from my experience washu is the college that uchicago rejects all get into

haha is that a joke???

no it is from the people i know

^^ Maybe trackster1992 was rejected from WashU and now attends UChicago??

you’re pitting speculation versus empirical observation here. don’t let your deluded school pride get in the way of facts

Coconut, Michigan is not a private university. Second, Michigan receives 30,000 undergraduate applications annually (most of which are from out-of-state students!). Michigan’s national reputation surpasses WUSTL. I can guarantee you that most people (outside medicine) have never heard of WUSTL. When I was applying to colleges almost a decade ago, WUSTL was a no-name and Ivy reject back-up school.

Michigan blows away WUSTL in business and engineering. Not even close. Michigan has a top 10-12 med school too. Internationally, Michigan is more prestigious than WUSTL. So is Chicago, NU, and I’d even say Wisconsin. Michigan is a state school with a different mission than a private school. It is however, one of the premier graduate schools on earth. Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Public Health, Public Policy, Social Work, Music, and most graduate liberal arts programs are top 5-10-15. WUSTL isn’t in it’s league.

wow lots of school pride issues around here… (ie. tenisghs is a NU alum)
I’m in high school still and hopefully can offer a less biased opinion.
first off, what ‘Michigan’ are we talking about here? and if it’s a public university, of course it’ll get more applications-- it’s a public school!
’ no-name’ and ‘ivy-reject back-up school’ - wow tenisghs why do you sound so bitter? I can only guess…

and rjkofnovi, I don’t think Michigan has a top 10-12 med school.
in any case, Washington University in St. Louis has a top FIVE (not “10-12”) medical school.

’ premier graduate schools on earth’ - how grand-sounding. Earth is the only habitable planet we know as of now, anyways.

there’s more reasons that people dislike certain schools (cough cough questionable admissions practices cough cough rank-climbing) than getting rejected from them, you know, muchoschocolate

LOL! I’m actually a proud NU alum. I am not bitter at all. I am just stating the facts. If you tell an employer or academic that WUSTL is overall more prestigious than Chicago, Michigan or Northwestern, they will more than likely disagree with you.

“and rjkofnovi, I don’t think Michigan has a top 10-12 med school.

Check the rankings. Michigan does. World-class Prestigious universities, as so many here on CC always forget, are usually based on graduate and professional programs. While WUSTL is stellar in a few areas, Michigan is stellar in many.

Seems like everyone is getting pretty vitriolic here…
If I may offer my humble opinion
Well, I have never really heard of Michigan.
I still think Washington University in St. Louis is more prestigious than Northwestern or University of Chicago.

But I think the best school in the universe is UCLA :)

“there’s more reasons that people dislike certain schools (cough cough questionable admissions practices cough cough rank-climbing) than getting rejected from them, you know, muchoschocolate”

That’s WUSTL down to a tee. This has been discussed many times here on CC.

It’s about high time you did. Trust me, Michigan is MUCH better known nationally and internationally than WUSTL.
