1 The percentage of students who matriculated at Harvard, Yale, and Princeton 1998-2001.
2 The total number of HYP students 1998-2001.
3 Boarding school tuition costs only.

whoa, did you just compile all that?

nyc independents represent

if by compiling you mean taking it off the website…

Interesting how on the Jay Matthews list the top 4 (or was it 3?) schools are all IB. Probably something to do with the diploma requirement in IB program (one has to take a certain number of IB exams in order to receive an IB diploma), which would inflate the schools numbers a bit; with AP you only take the exams in subjects you’re interested in.

But Ib is the best, evar, so it makes sense.

Also, IB kids are likely to score higher on standardized tests, since you are usually either all ib or nothing…

And since IB test usually don’t get you **** in terms of college credits, many IB students take the equivalent AP tests too

Oh, I love IB don’t get me wrong. I’m just saying the program itself comes with a lot of REQUIRED exams one takes as a part of receiving one’s diploma. That raises a school’s “Challenge Index”.

I think both of these rankings are pretty flawed because they are so one-dimensional, but rankings in general can pretty much never be objective so it doesn’t really matter. They are pretty good in giving an idea of the top schools though, especially the feeder one (though a school’s success should never be measured by its % ivy acceptance).

Edit: I forgot…takeme2cali asked where Boston Latin is. Hmmmm…lets think about that shall we?

no you ■■■■■■, i meant on the list…
I hate you :p

that website sure shows alot top feeders are rich white boy private skools for people in top 1 percent of country get into hyps get into best grad programs become the top 1 percent of the country and then repeat
no wonder i am a ***en socialist lol

Those lists of “top” schools have little meaning other than to identify places where rich parents (particularly in the Northeast) send their kids to high school. Very little relationship to true “quality” of education. Admittedly (and despite what some folks on this board would like to believe), a very significant number of HYP students come from these highly privileged backgrounds … and are not one bit “better” than countless other kids around the country who don’t have the advantages that money (and highly educated parents) provide.

There are a couple exceptions to this … curiously, a large public magnet school (Boston Latin) was ranked #1 – although geography explains much of the preponderance of students ending up at Harvard.

haha wow paxon is a joke…its where all the stanton rejects go, this ranking is bs

Jay Matthew’s list is screwed up…he won’t put magnet schools on it. My high school is supposedly the top public high school in the country. Its on the list compiled. I have to disagree about the statement about high levels of HYP students coming from rich, private schools. As I said, my school is public and normally about 15 students get into HYP (15 at Harvard, 15 at Yale, 15 at Princeton…not total) per year. This has nothing to do with being really rich or having tons of alumni relations or anything. Though this fits a few people at my school, most are 1600, straight A students with AMAZING extracurriculars.

the top school, corona del mar?
from what i know, that’s a very high class community…
nationally renowned tennis team… i have a friend who graduated from there and went to harvard, class of 2003, and his family was pretty damn rich… but it’s not fair to make a generalization about an entire school population based on one kid

just casting a shadow of a doubt on some of these public schools, as they nearly fit the “private-school” stereotype…

so dumb, my school is like 300 something, but we sent 4 early action to stanford this year

dumbest measure

no not Corona del Mar…I said supposedly b/c thats what they always tell us but it isn’t always #1 on the list. It normally ranks somewhere up there though. The area I live in is suburban so there are a lot of middle or upper middle class families with kids that attend my school. There are some rich kids too, but no way would I say its full of a bunch of rich kids w/ HYP graduate parents.

by the way that list was by state and in no particular order…my school is actually at the end of the list, being in VA
