Top Chef (Texas) and/or Next Iron Chef....

I actually liked Chiarello on Top Chef Masters, though he is very arrogant. Zakarian would probably be interesting in an actual battle-he is a ridk taker. Still, I root for Faulkner.

Well, that must be in the eye of the beholder. It is obvious that people who watch the same show can have different opinions. As I wrote before, I have always found Burrell extremely annoying and never understood why she was elevated from her role of sous-chef. Alex adds whining to an over-inflated ego. Have you seen her on Chopped?

Zakarian might not be the most entertaining chef, but he has always performed well on the competition shows and has always displayed enough skills (and some class) to be at the level of the best Iron Chefs. Except for the three last finalists, none of the current crop were close to it. In the end, the judges picked the last three correctly, and the decision between Chiarello and Faulkner could have gone either way.

In the end, the next Iron Chef, be it Zakarian or Faulkner, will make us forget the mistakes of the past two editions. As far as I am concerned, they could have picked the last three and replaced Garces and that Mohawk-clad “chef.”

Fwiw, I still believe that the Iron Chef America is on its last leg.

Interesting, Xiggi, that you believe the program is on its way out. Is the original still airing in Japan? Do you have any thoughts what will replace it, or is Top Chef going to take over?

Re: Top Chef, I wish it was not a double elimination tonight. Seems unfair. I also cannot wait for the witch to be eliminated.

Iron Chef ended in 1999 in Japan or in 2002 if you add the special runs. The original ran for about seven years, which is about what ICA will reach soon. The show is showing fatigue with lesser and lesser chefs and judges. One more season and a few specials will be an accomplishment.

They’ll have to steal another concept.

And the winner is :

The one the judges have picked. Sorry, no spoilers this week. :)

Well, it was a surprise to me! I just figured it was guaranteed that Falkner would win as Cat Cora is leaving. Both of them are quite good, and either one would have made a great Iron Chef, so I am not complaining at all.

Thanks xiggi! BTW, they are calling “the witch” “Shrek” on another form. Sorry about Nyesha going out, but she got " the martyr edit", which is a decent way to go.

Thank you, Xiggi, for the above link…

Was Heather eliminated because of her dish or her attitude? Did Malibu Chris and bubbly Grayson get extra points for likeability?

talking Top Chef here

It seemed like Chris’s dish was the best of the worst. Hey, we know the potatoes were good. Grayson’s and Heather’s looked like a tie for the loss, and my guess is that Heather’s personality did her in.

Don’t know if Heather’s personality did her in for the judges, but it did her in (a long time ago) for me. Happy to see her gone.

was sorry to see Malibu chris leave; he was a fan favorite

For those not familiar with Nathan Myhrvold prior this episode.

From Tom’s blog:

"You may be asking why we had the first chief technology officer at Microsoft as a judge on Top Chef. Simply put, he’s an expert at BBQ and a great choice for this challenge. I’ve known Nathan Myhrvold for years… since he was at Microsoft, in fact. He has a very, very bright and inquisitive mind and is a real Renaissance man, excelling in all he does. He started college at age 14 (not a typo), has worked on quantum theories of gravity as a postdoctoral fellow at Cambridge under Stephen Hawking, and his areas of expertise range from paleontology to technology to barbeque to applying scientific principles to cooking, to geoengineering. Geoengineering? He’s figuring out how to reverse global warming. Really. Oh, and he’s also figuring out how the creation of clouds at will can ameliorate drought and hunger. Meanwhile, his barbeque took the top prize att he world championship of barbeque in Memphis. He brought his trademark enthusiasm and intelligence to our challenge this week, and it was an honor and a pleasure to have him with us.’

Anyone still watching?

I would say that those girls especially were NOT happy to see Bev back! I cannot believe Sara is in the top 4. She annoys me to NO end!!!

Our house is rooting for Paul for the win! How adorable was he when he was introducing his mentor?!

Looks like a crazy weather change coming up for them. From heat to freeze!

Always love this show!

So sad for Ed, Bev is annoying in her continual lack of confidence. No matter who had come back, it would be tough to have made it to the final four only to then find out you really did not.

It’s especially sad for Ed since he almost won the quickfire. Sarah was smart to take a guaranteed place in the finals. I wonder if Paul had won, would he end with 2 Priuses that day?

It hasn’t been the best season and the cooking hasn’t been up to par except for the mad Queeen’s feast. I don’t like Bev, but she’s not as annoying as Marcel was. I couldn’t watch for years after he was on the show, and then he kept cropping up! She reminds me of Angelo, always praying for himself under his breath. I’m rooting for Paul too.
