I would like to know what are the top schools around the world(English speaking) thatare known for engineering. I am trying to weigh my options because schools in the US are very expensive and I live in the Bahamas. There aren’t much places in the US where I can get aid so I would like to know of some other schools around the world which are good in engineering where I can have a good chance of paying.

Imperial College , Cambridge

no aid at these places

technical university in munich

University of Waterloo in Canada is an excellent school for engineering.

forget to mention U of T…when u are saying foreign i always thought of UK schools…LOL…Waterloo is good too…but mainly CS…maybe Mcmaster is not bad either…

Waterloo is generally considered the top school in Canada when it comes to engineering. U of T and McGill are very good overall (UT’s med school is ranked #1 in Canada, and I’ve heard that McGill’s med school and law school are both highly regarded). Queens is considered the top for business. All of these schools are well respected overall.

i got into waterloo Comp Sci, with president’s scholarship, but decided against it cuz its 5 years (co-op). It turns out economical, but i can get a bachelors degree in UK in 3 years.

usually all the math wizz and science geeks like to go to waterloo or UofT

The Indian Institutes of Technology are no doubt the best colleges abroad for engineering. But you have no chance of getting in since you need to study 2 yrs for the entrance test. So that was pointless.
I would also suggest Imperial. My cousin is going there for bioengineering.

What kind of stats would I need to get into a school like Waterloo or Toronto or Imperial. I live in a country where we do GCE equivalent. I got an A in Math in grade 10 and I am waiting on my other results. I am going to be doing the IB program also. What IB test results would I need to get into these schools and I will also be doing the SAT and SAT llc Math and Physics

I don’ t know about Canadian schools very much but I would say Cambridge and Imperial are on par with top American schools like MIT, Caltech, Berkeley, Stanford etc…

MIT Caltech are in a league of their own. Theres a good chance you’ll bee rolling around in cash after a few years of graduating. The Indian Institutes of tech are not the best engg. schools abroad, but they have possibly the smartest and most hardworking peer group.

My cousin had a 1430 SAT/720 MATH IIC /800Physics when he got into Imperial. His GPA wasn’t that great. Not too many xtracurriculars. He said his essay sucked, and it did. He got rejected from j hopkins. It wasn’t until people started saying that imperial was so great till I knew about it.

And yes if you go to IIT you have to follow it up with a good grad school, but it costs almost nothing to go there so you’re spending as much as you would for an undergrad

where exactly is this imperial college. Just thinking the name makes my native brown skin shiver…:)

it is in England. And many people consider it as the greates engineering school in Europe.

oh…well theres no way in hell im going to england anytime soon, i prefer to be alive and safe.

do consider Intl univ of Bremen… Germany
and hey, u can always apply for finaid at MIT n Caltech

Ok. But I don’t think that those schools give much financial aid. I may be wrong but most US schools give limited funds to internationals.

I’m at Imperial College, which is in London, and supposed to be pretty good for engineering. There are a lot of international students here (~40%). I don’t know how it compares with the top american schools, but the “Times Higher Education Supplement” ranks it 5th in the world for engineering and IT. Tuition is slightly lower than for the US, however, if you’re from overseas, it’s still expensive.

I happen to know the International University Bremen, and if you’re mostly concerned about financial aid, definitely give it a try, from my experience it is very easy to get a full scholarship if you have good grades. They don’t rank anywhere though, and it’s a very, very small college.
