6 AP classes this year, 7 total throughout

Hi there! Are there any top UK univerities still accepting international students? By top universities, I mean the highest ranked universities I would have a chance of getting into with my stats.

The international student deadline isn’t until June except for Oxford and Cambridge so if you’re interested in applying to schools in the UK do some research on the ones you’re interested in (most top universities will require several AP scores of 4 or 5 and SAT scores with 600 in each section) through the individual university websites. Then make a UCAS account and turn in the application. You will probably get all conditional offers though since it sounds like you don’t currently have enough AP scores to be given an unconditional offer. UK schools really don’t care much about your extracurriculars unless you choose to write about those for your personal statement. All they will see is your test scores & other qualifications, one recommendation letter from a teacher, and your personal statement.

If your main concern is attending a top university my suggestion is to look at a league table and start looking at the universities from the top of the rankings going down to see if 1) you’re interested in the university and 2) your qualifications meet their minimum entry requirements. Good luck with your application!

Thank you so much!

Be aware that you apply to one subject (or pre-set groups of subjects). Every university has detailed (right down to the classes you take each year) descriptions of every course, as well as the prerequisites for admission.

As an example, most Biology courses are going to want test scores in Bio (obviously), but some level of math and chemistry or a second science as well. This is important not just for admission, but for being able for the coursework: if an A level or GCSE standard is noted, the professors will start with the assumption that everybody has mastered the subject to that level. There will be no special help classes, or easier sections for people who don’t have that background. Because UK unis tend to be more hands-off, and b/c they tend to not do as much continuing assessment (they are typically fewer / more heavily weighted) it is easy to get lost.

It is certainly possible, but it will be about as expensive as it would in the US, assuming you are not an EU citizen.

Why do you want to go to a British Uni? It doesn’t seem like you’ve done much research. Check out the Student Room, it is for study in the UK and is quite friendly.

The problem is that without the AP scores on the books yet it’s going to be a conditional offer and you won’t know if you’re in until July

The kind of U that you can get to in the UK is going to be the kind of school you can get in in the USA. If you have $40K a year to spend on education you can probably look at some privates in the USA that would fit your stats. , If you aren’t excited by your US schools perceived prestige, you won’t do better in the UK unless you have a handful of high score APs you haven’t listed. Nix the ECs list, because the UK won’t care…

@Sybylla I think that UK schools are less insane when it comes to the admissions game. You need the grades, but as you note they don’t require the EC nonsense - they are only interested in ECs directly related to the discipline you choose. Since you start by applying to a faculty - essentially with a major already chosen - British unis are not seeking some kind of subjective “holistic” look at the entire individual, hence it is more based on academic achievement. Thus, if an applicant has shown a strong interest in a field, they have some advantage for adm to the best schools.

What subject do you want to study, and what AP classes are you taking?

@alcibiade, sure I get that, OP has no given AP scores, and a lower SAT. Holistic would only HELP such a student. The reality is he or she would be looking at a UK uni that would not be a top uni, globally or UK, unless there are some stellar AP scores in solid subjects vs AP lite forthcoming (so at best there would be a conditional offer). The OP only has an SAT/gpa/rank to go on and that has already provided challenges in the US stats driven schools. OP needed a wider net and a good safety school (which I think is in the bag). This is just a whim IMO.
