Toy Story 3 - go see it

As my daughter says, this is her generation. The boy, Andy, was her age in the first two movies and now, like her, he’s going off to college.

We saw this in 3D. I highly recommend that.

Movie ended and I said, “One of the best movies I’ve ever seen.” Gripping, intelligent, very moving and utterly satisfying.

It was fabulous! (even the regular version; we didn’t see it in 3D) I laughed all the way through, got scared for the characters during parts, and cried at the end- every emotion and this in an animated movie!

It does take you back through your life with your own kid- the original Toy Story was first movie our family saw at the theatre when s was 5. We all went together again on Friday- it was a great way to celebrate the end of a wonderful Disney story!

I saw it last night with H and S2. Loved it! That’s saying a lot, as I don’t generally like movies.

S2 didn’t want to see it; was glad he did. Enjoyed it very much. We all thought it was sad, though (maybe melancholy is a better word.)

We saw it in 3D, but this is one movie where I would have been just as happy with it in 2D. The 3D was an afterthought, and so while there is some depth to it, there is none of the “jumping off the screen, into the audience” kinds of antics that make 3D worth the extra money.

I hope to see it soon; I have heard nearly uniformly positive reactions.

I’m waiting to see how long it takes the mods to merge the two Toy Story 3 threads…

Tomorrow, tomorrow. I’m going tomorrow.

Pixar has real talent! DH and I had a date night on Friday, and we went to see Toy Story 3 in regular 3D (IMAX 3D was sold out). We enjoyed the third movie even more than the first two in the sequel. Go see it - it is so worth the price of your ticket! (And the opening short film, Day and Night, is very charming!)

My daughter went to the first midnight showing with a group of friends. Even the guys were crying (and grateful for the 3-D glasses). Some of them wanted to go home and play with their own old toys. Now I want to go!

great movie! i especially enjoyed the ‘Day and Night’ short. my kids have been away to college for three (S1) and one (S2) years, and we’ve yet to totally clean out their rooms (and basement) of old junk, but the movie gave us permission to move forward. witty, funny, poignant and, like all pixar flicks, well worth the price. go see it!

So I have not seen the previous movies- ( Although H took the kids to see the original)- would I still " get it"?

emeraldkity4, since it’s about life i’m sure you’d ‘get it’ but to see the previous movies would add extra nuances to the experience. enjoy!

BTW, I saw a preview showing of Despicable Me. It was good. Somewhere in quality above the Dreamworks stuff like Shrek - which rely on obvious gags played up big - and below Pixar. Well below Toy Story 3 but then almost any movie would be. Despicable Me had a cartoonish (in the dumb sense) plot but was generally well thought out in clever ways and reached some genuinely touching moments.

EK - I didn’t see the first two, and didn’t have any trouble following this one. Like morandi said, there are nuances that you will miss, as I did.

For example, afterwards, my S was explaining to me about the aliens and the “claw” - the aliens are from an earlier Toy Story, and are little green guys that were gotten at a pizza place (hence, they are from “Pizza Planet” or something like that) in one of those machines where you control the mechanical “claw” to grab a toy. So the aliens like claws. I didn’t know that ahead of time, so didn’t understand why the aliens got excited about every claw they saw.

The little green guys were inside one of those claw grabber things where you put money in and try to grab the prize. In the mythology of the little green guys, the one grabbed by the claw was chosen.

I loved how Disney-Pixar put Sid (Andy’s neighbor/the antagonist from the original Toy Story) into the film with a cameo appearance! He was the garbageman! Haha.

We went tonight. Truly, I was a crying MESS when Andy and his Mom were in his room! I’m in deep, deep trouble! Bad timing with S’s grad party in two days!

But, great story. Great characters. Funny lines (the tortilla! Where do they come up with these ideas!!!)

^It takes good computer animators to create stunning graphics, but it takes real talent to make a really funny and memorable animated movie! Pixar’s got both!

BTW, Sid now makes a bundle (and gets great bennies) as a garbageman!

I can’t wait to see it. I loved the first two.

abasket, you will have to change your name to “abasket case” That’s what I was as I drove away from school after leaving my D freshman year.

Ah, you guys make great parents. I’m still trying to convince my mom it’s not a “childish film” lol.

D just came home from seeing it and gave me the rundown. I think I’ll have to wait a few years, I got teary just hearing about Andy teaching the little girl how to play with his toys!
