Trader Joe's Top 10

I, for one, don’t like greek yogurt. My favorite is Brown Cow yogurt, available at Wegmans.

Toneranger, for less then $2.00 a jar, you can afford to taste test both Salsa’s at once. You know neither will taste bad. Love the idea of putting it on Salmon. I’ll have to try that.

I haven’t read the last 7 pages - so excuse me if duplicating someone’s favorite, but here’s mine: dark chocolate covered raspberry jellies, and dark chocolate covered orange jellies (not sure if that is their exact name… yummy candy, and they are not thickened with gelatin but with some plant or veggy starch…)

Hey, anxiousmom … where do you do your TJ shopping? There’s none in Texas. When I went to Santa Fe for business last week I had to be sure to stop by a TJ’s to bring home some chocolate covered peanut butter pretzels and fig breakfast bars.

I was in Seattle and the PNW visiting friends two weeks ago. I went to TJ’s while there and bought back a lot of dried fruit and nuts and CHOCOLATES  (also 5 lbs of stomach flab… :() I had to pay $15 to check one piece of luggage on the plane, but it was well worth it! I wish we had a TJ here in Austin…

^^^I was wondering the same thing. That Costco peach mango salsa, (is it called Santa Barbara brand?) is awesome. H’mm must do a tasting of TJ’s.

The costco mango salsa is too chunky for me…bet it is good on fish though…

Given the rave reviews, I picked up a jar of that mango salsa today at TJ’s…and the angels sang. That stuff is really great!

Taste test complete!
Costco’s mango salsa is chunky and not spicy. Love it on fish and as a topping on fajitas.

TJ’s -peach salsa… smooth, smoky, a little spicy and mildly sweet. Terrific with chips…but I’ll stick to the Costco brand for food toppings (or make my own when I feel ambitious!).

Just got back from TJs. I am fortunate enough to have to local stores.

I just tried their dried pineapple for the first time and I loved lit. Unlike other dried pineapple, these are contain nothing but pineapple (ie: not sugar coated, and no sulfur). I guess bc there is no sulfur added, the color is not as pretty but that does not effect the taste (brownish rather than yellow).

I also bought windmill cookies, dunkers, hummus, crackers, tortilla chips, string beans, Greek yogurt and ready made frozen rice.

SlitheyTove, You got mango salsa? I have not seen it in months (which reminds me of the TJ’s “commercial” on youtube).

kathiep, Have you tried Wegman’s organic Super yogurt? It’s quite good. (I’ve only had the plain.) Another yogurt I used to love but haven’t seen in awhile is Seven Stars Farm from Phoenixville PA. It was really rich, with a nice skim of solidified cream on top; the maple was to die for.

Whoops, I typed “mango” when I meant “peach”. They both have 5 letters, after all. It’s the TJ peach salsa that’s utterly delicious. Spouse and D2 concur.

I’m afraid they’ve discontinued the mango salsa, along with another of my favorites, mango sauce.

1moremom, I have tried Wegman’s super yogurt and liked it. Have not tried the Seven Stars farm, but it sounds familiar. Was that also available at Wegmans? The Brown cow has that yummy creamy stuff too. Oh, you know what? I think I saw it yesterday at a brand new store that opened up in my town!

I used to get the 7 Stars through my food coop, which has disbanded. Of course, any yogurt that has all the milk fat is going to be nice and creamy. :)

Tried the TJ New Mexico coffee this am. Yep yep, another winner.

Thanks for the mango salsa review tr. Wonder if certain TJ’s only carry certain stuff seasonally or regionally given that some of you can’t find the salsa…

Why didn’t anyone tell me how tasty their Oyster crackers are? I had low expectations for this typically bland garnish; now I can’t keep my pantry stocked. Everyone’s hand is in the box.

Yep the New Mexico coffee isn’t a TJ branded item but must be something their buyers found:

I tried the Costco peach mango salsa, toneranger! That was a wonderful suggestion to put it on salmon - I did that one night and then did it on the Costco pork filet another night. My husband is not a big garlic fan (gasp!) but I had bought the whole marinated pork filet and then cut them into thick slices and grilled. I loved the flavor but the garlic was overwhelming for DH, so I suggested he top it with the salsa and he loved it.

We like the gorgonzola crackers, the dark chocolate covered raisins, any of the cooking sauces (Thai Red Curry, Thai Yellow Curry, other simmer sauces in the jars), Hansen sodas in cans, sparkling lemonade, and Island Soyaki (makes a great marinade). Also, I consistently buy (for my morning oatmeal) dried wild blueberries and candied walnuts.

I’ll second the Island Soyaki. I’ve been using it for tofu. I’ll cube a pound of tofu, fry it up and then after it’s lightly browned, pour in enough of the Soyaki to moisten the tofu. I then cook it some more until the tofu is dark brown and the outside is slightly carmelized. We then store this in a plastic container to use for snacks, salads or stir frys. Probably adds quite a bit of calories but sure is tasty!
