Transfer Financial Aid

I will be applying to Lafayette as a transfer with the intention of enrolling in the fall of 2009 if accepted depending on one thing: financial aid.

Is financial aid offered to transfer students?
Does the same system of grants after $2,500 to students from families that make between $50,000 and $100,000 still apply to transfers?

I thank anyone who responds for their responses in advance.

JB,

This is what the Office of Financial Aid has to say about funding for transfer students:

<<< Spring 2009 transfer applicants should submit the 2008-09 Profile, FAFSA, and 2007 federal tax returns, schedules, and W-2s for both student and parent(s) by Oct. 1, 2008. Fall 2009 transfer applicants should submit the 2009-10 Profile, FAFSA, and signed copies of 2008 federal tax returns for student and parent(s) by April 1, 2009. College-funded aid for transfer students is highly competitive and subject to availability of funds. >>>

The College meets the full financial need of ALL students. The new system of funding you describe also applies to ALL students.

With that said, another sentence in the transfer application is even more telling:

<<< College-awarded aid for transfer students is competitive; however, we attempt to aid as many transfer students as possible. >>>

Just as for our international applicants, gaining acceptance is the hard part; once accepted, funding shouldn’t pose an issue. Funding is disbursed to transfer applicants as it is to any other applicant.

How hard exactly is it to gain admission as a transfer student? Well, this year, we had only nine transfer students enroll. Of course, more could have been accepted and then decided to enroll elsewhere. I do not know how many transfer applications we received last year; maybe Ms. Lichtenwalner would be willing to share (lichtenj@lafayette.edu)?

Thank you for your help Justin.
I email that person mentioned in your post about transferring as soon as I speak to my transfer counselor at Binghamton today, I had submitted my Fafsa and tax returns to Lafayette in February, because I originally applied as a freshman, was waitlisted and then chose not to take a spot on the waitlist, so I wonder if they matriculated over.

On a similar note, are Marquis scholarships open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors too, or only to incoming freshmen?

Are there any scholarships for returning students who perform well in their freshmen year? Just curious.

Good questions, Minky.

Lafayette’s merit-based scholarships (Marquis and Trustee) are only offered to first-year applicants.

There are a number of endowed scholarships one may qualify for in any given year, so, yes, one may be awarded additional grant money based on academic performance and extracurricular involvement as a current student.
