Transfer from RPI to UAlbany

I’m very seriously considering and honestly leaning towards transferring from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to SUNY University at Albany.

In the 2017-2018 academic year I was at Clarkson University, I transferred to RPI for Fall 2018 to study Chemistry. First semester here I struggled a lot academically and dropped Organic Chemistry I, most likely setting back my graduation timeline. This semester I was again struggling and dropped both Differential Equations and Inorganic Chemistry I. This leaves me taking just 8 credits this semester, fortunately I was approved for part time study and I received a partial tuition refund.

At the end of this semester at RPI I will have 53 credits at RPI. If I were to transfer to UAlbany I estimate they would accept 66 credits (UAlbany accepts credits that RPI does not, including giving more credit for my AP tests). If I was transferring to UAlbany I would also be planning on taking about 12 credits credits this summer at Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC). I expect those credits would be accepted on top of the 66 already mentioned.

I am struggling academically at RPI and no longer feel that chemistry is necessarily the right fit for me. In my mind at UAlbany I would have more flexibility in the courses I choose and less stress about my graduation timeline since money would not be a problem at a SUNY versus RPI. I want to explore my interests in a less stressful way and want to stay in the area. Would transferring to UAlbany from RPI be a mistake?
